Bionic Bar @ Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas (Cruise to Nowhere)

It's no secret I love cocktails and one of the things I was looking forward to doing on the Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas cruise was having a few cocktails at Bionic Bar.

There are quite a number of bars onboard the ship and there was honestly nothing spectacular about it when you step in; typical bar layout with cushy sofa chairs, bar chairs etc.

Step in further for the centerpiece and highlight for the bionic bar!

Hundreds of bottles were placed upside down on the ceiling and alcohol lovers would definitely be able to identify quite a number of notable brands like Vodka. Despite the eye-catching display, there's a practical use to this interesting placement.

You order via a panel on the side and please don't expect a human bartender to attend to you. The two machines, aptly called the robotic bartenders, would do the job instead. It's the truth; we are being replaced by machines!

While spontaneous human interactions would be hard to replace with a machine, the robotic bartenders would prove to be helpful in popular watering holes, in meeting the customers' demand for cocktails, mocktails etc, in the peak hours.

I wrote so much but the problem is; I didn't even manage to secure any drink from the machines! The bar was always empty when I checked out on a daily basis, and the panels didn't seem to work. It's only on my last day that I checked with one of the Royal Caribbean's staff in another restaurant.

Turned out the robotic bartenders were on strike. :(
