Location is the key consideration whenever I choose my overseas accommodation and in my recent trip to Bangkok, I decided to stay at the Silom area, and one property stood out from my search.
ibis Styles Bangkok Silom - located just 250 meters away from Sala Daeng BTS station, and a relatively new hotel that started business in 2020, with 264 guestrooms! Newer hotels always have that contemporary vibe although the rooms are also much smaller, compared to older ones like Hotel Royal Bangkok that I often book for my visits to the capital city of Thailand.
Checking in at the lobby. Wait for a while as there's something really eye-catching and instagrammable at the ground floor, which I would share shortly.
First, secured our key card. I don't like this wooden material; though sustainable, I always have the fear that I might accidentally bent it until it breaks!
Info; for me, important one shall be the gym operating hours.
Now, the view I promised; it felt like an open courtyard surrounded by rooms with three columns of see-through lift shafts right ahead of us! The first word that came out was "wow"; not fromme since I saw the pictures beforehand.
I didn't wow but I was still impressed to catch it with my own eyes. Having said that, I wouldn't term it as breathtaking as such word should be reserved for nature's work and not things that can be built with money.
The place was especially comfortable in the daytime, when sunlight continued to stream in from the massive skylight above, bringing much illumination to the air-conditioned space.
Those who brought a book would have enjoyed the relaxed setting of this co-working space, although most people appeared to be using it for the sake of social media, for good reasons of course given how nice the whole place looks.
View at night; said to close at 11pm, it was too dark for one to do any reading or even take any photographs, although it might still work well for a mug of beer or two, with minimal noise as I bet my loud voice would likely amplify to the upper floors.
More photographs of the lobby at night. Maybe due to energy savings, typical of new hotels, the lights were a bit too dim for my liking, even though not to the extent of being creeped out like in the case of some older hotels.

The vibrant floor corridor which was super nice when the sunlight streamed in during the daytime, showcasing a colorful, playful palette deviating from traditional or high class hotels.
Our 18 square-meter colorful room with a king sized bed; space felt compact and the sink was outside, instead of inside a washroom. Is that a problem? Well, for someone who flosses, it can be.
First and foremost, I needed to commend the bed; it was soft and so sleep inducing, perfect for an insomnia person like me! And I love the longer than your usual pillows, as they can double up as bolsters!
Cabinet with the mini fridge had the outlook of a luggage! What's lacking were the four wheels allowing me to move it! Within was a hairdryer and top were the glass bottles of water, cups etc. Small study table. Forgot to mention that the general lights were based on motion-sensors and would switch on once you step into the room.
Open-air wardrobe with a in-room safe. Honestly, the room felt sufficient enough, but with two pieces of large luggage, it can feel a bit too tight! Thankfully, there were still some space underneath the 43-inch television.
Retro telephone! As the hotel was built in 2020, there were provisions for international power sockets and even USB ports; not new enough to provide USB-C ports though.

3rd floor, nothing much.
The shower was right next and I would need to assure those staying with friends that there's a blind you can roll to hide the actions! Well, can't stop your friend from rolling it up though; and the glass door was only translucent in the middle.

Toilet was separate which was good as I have the tendency to stay quite long on the throne due to constipation that comes with age! Loving the bidet spray; a Japanese electronic bidet would be the best but I am not complaining
Mini bar on the top floor which was quite strange as it was right in front once the lift doors open! And we had to walk past in order to get to the gym on the right or pool on the left.
View in front of the treadmill which had the same facing as our room 326. Operating hours for the gym would be from 6am till 11pm.
Pixelated King Power Mahanakhon can be viewed from another window. If you are lucky, I guess it's a possibility to catch a view of the sunset. If you are a fan of sunset, I would recommend paying a visit to the ticketed King Power Mahanakhon SkyWalk.
Swimming Pool
Outdoor pool operated from 7am till 10pm and about 17 meters in length. Even though I brought along my swimming trunks, I didn't have time to check it out as we were out with our family most of the times!
Taking reference from the co-working space at lobby level, there were comfortable lounge sofas functioning as part of the pool bar. The only thing is that the scenery ahead wasn't that great, and throughout my five-night stay, there were hardly any customers.
I am guessing this used to be the pool bar.
My room didn't come with hotel breakfast but my sister did secure hers with breakfast. What I heard was that the buffet breakfast was normal and my sister and brother in law preferred to explore breakfast outside the hotel! So, their slots were given to my mom and Alex instead!
Information sheet in the lifts. Last part was important as the doors open on the opposite side; not the same side as lobby floor, and you can only tap your own floor at the sensor at the other door.
