Burapa Bird's Nest Soup in 2022 @ Chinatown in Bangkok [Thailand]

There are a few foods at Bangkok Chinatown that tourists would give a try whenever they are in the area; shark's fins used to be one of them but its popularity has dropped drastically in recent years.

Another would be bird's nest soup and I strongly recommended the one from Burapa, which I first patronized in 2019. Two over years of pandemic and I am back to this bird's nest specialty eatery again! Nothing much seemed to have changed.

Prices were not indicated on the menu and for bird's nest; you only have options for red or white bird's nest, and a separate topping for ginseng. For those who are unaccustomed to red bird's nest; it's known as blood nest in Chinese given its color.

The lack of prices on menu may be disturbing but you may rely on the pricing on these metal containers right at the entrance! Cheapest was 200 baht (a serving) and the most expensive, I think, was 1,500 baht.

Huge disparity of price due to the concentration of bird's nest! The cheaper ones were more fragmented and watery; which also infer a lower quality. So what other differences between and red and white bird's nest? The former was from the wild, as I understood from one of the staff.

We ordered one white and one red, and it's fascinating to note that the water would be drained! I am not sure if they would do the same for hot bird's nest soup as we were more keen with the cold version (i.e. ice was added).

Our complimentary glass of iced chrysanthemum tea!
Sweet yet an absolutely blissful drink in hot weather.

Together with our bird's nest came the unique display consisting of honey and ginkgo nuts! By itself, bird's nest has not much taste and it was more for their health benefits that the Chinese believes in.

I honestly couldn't remember how much I paid for the bird's nest; it's either 300 or 500 baht. Nevertheless, it's quite a steal to have it in Thailand as prices in Singapore are high and you are likely to get more sugar than bird's nest.

Over here at Burapa's Bird Nest, you can choose how high a sweetness you prefer since you can control the amount of honey to be added. I especially enjoy the soft, sweetened ginkgo nuts and was ecstatic when Alex passed me his!

An expensive dessert no doubt!
p.s. it's more a dessert than a soup to me.
