Satay Jae Aeng outside Kwang Tung Shrine @ Bangkok Chinatown (Near Wat Mangkon MRT Station) [Thailand]

The wafts of grilled meat sent strong signals to my brains and I couldn't help turning towards its origins; ahead of me was a covered-up space, with clouds smoke streaming from the top!

It was a familiar sight for a local Singapore; sticks of satay on a charcoal grill! Now, I have had satay in Bangkok before and they were, honestly, different from what we have on our little red dot.

However, the aroma was irresistible and ten sticks should be manageable for our tummies even though both Alex and I had been stuffing ourselves with food the whole day! Aside from the usual pork and chicken, other options include beef, pork liver, pork intestines and shrimp! Pricing ranged from 80 baht to 200 baht for 10 sticks.

Seating available further down, beside another stall that appeared to sell prepacked food. It was a tad warm but since it was already evening time, the temperature was manageable.

Our plate of 10 sticks of pork satay, together with servings of satay sauce and Thai preferred pickled onions, cucumbers with cut chilli. Frankly, I prefer our Singapore version of plain, naked yet refreshingly natural onions and cucumbers.

The grainy gravy might appear similar to Singapore's satay but it was more like sweet curry, and way less aromatic. However, not all Singapore's satay gravies are the same; at least this was viscous.

At just about 30 cents for one stick, it was apparent from the photographs that the pork satay was meatier than what we had in Singapore, at more than doubled the pricing. Marination was sweet like Singapore's version with two other key "healthy" benefits; meat wasn't as charred and also not as fatty as the pork satays in Singapore.

Satisfying not doubt! Would definitely be back!
p.s. yes, roadside dining!
