Family Mookata - All Day Buffet @ Kim San Leng Food Centre (Yishun's Northpoint Bizhub) [Singapore]

Yishun has quite a few mookata stalls dotted all over the infamous town and the one I had been wanting to try for the longest time was Family Mookata, which offered an appealing meat lover platter, similar to Chi Tai Bao Mookata!

A friend came over to look for us and since the weather was so cooling after a heavy downpour; I took the opportunity and proposed taking a cab to Northpoint Bizhub (not at Northpoint City shopping mall) for Thai steamboat and barbeque at Family Mookata

While it was the meat lover platter that attracted me on social media, the appearance of an all-day buffet at just S$14.90 per adult, on the signboard, was just too hard to resist! I did some calculations and the buffet option was a better offer; hence, let's go for it.

In no time, the table was setup with the necessary, including the stove, the jar of soup, the meat, the vegetables, the chili and the cutleries. Wait, something was missing.

The all-important mookata grill plate! Some of you might ask, what difference is this plate from the rest, aside from its convex shape? Those holes surrounding the middle section, which allow the juices from the meat to flow into the steamboat!

Not everything from its usual menu would be included in the buffet; for example, no seafood, no cheese products. What you see above are the various marination of pork and chicken thighs, inclusive of luncheon meat, chicken hotdogs, fish balls and crab sticks.

Mushroom delights; consisting of enoki mushrooms, king mushroom and oyster mushroom. You can tell the friendly staff what you want or don't want; by default, they would serve everything in the first round.

Vegetable selection included chinese cabbage, xiao bai cai, broccoli and sweet corn. I am not big on vegetables and would at most just go for chinese cabbage as basic 'decorations' for the steamboat. Although I try not to have carbohydrates, I couldn't resist the maggi mee (options like rice and glass noodles were available too)!

Let the grilling begin!
p.s. the steamboat was less important for me.

Soup was a bit bland but true mookata lovers would know the flavor intensified over time! Once you grill enough meat, the soup shall magically turn for the better.

When it comes to mookata, I am particular with the chilli and love the sweet and spicy one from Chi Tai Bao Mookata. At Family Mookata, it had one (red) similar to Chi Tai Bao that was even more addictive and bursting with garlic; not in a good way as the taste could overpower the meat marination sometimes!

Second round; with the maggi mee thrown into the steamboat!

So shiok to have noodles in soup for such nice weather! Only one issue; the operator didn't pass us the usually tomyum seasoning powder which would have made the soup irresistible!

Third round with new platter; to be honest, the chicken thighs were juicier and tenderer than the pork slices, and this time, we went with Thai marinated, tomyum, honey tomato, mala and curry!

As mentioned earlier, the chili I liked had the tendency to cover up the flavors of the marinated meat. For me, the curry chicken thigh and the honey tomato chicken thigh were rated higher among the marinated meat.

Done! Look at the collection of oil in the soup! At this time, it would be the most delish, albeit also the most sinful! Usually, I would also relish in digging into the oil-drained pork lards but they were not as crispy as I assumed they would be.

Would I be back? Definitely given the chilli, the variety and the affordable buffet pricing! Not to mention that the location is more convenient for my family and the operators were also super duper friendly.

There's another reason; Family Mookata served moo ping and they were legit delicious, without the disgusting pork taste! Needless to say, that's the biggest draw for me! p.s. something needs to be improved from the mookata though; they should provide tongs for ease of barbecuing!
