In addition to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, one of the main reasons for jogging in the great outdoors when one was overseas was the opportunity of exploring the areas surrounding the hotel, in this case, Haian Riverfront Hotel Da Nang.
From far, I didn't realize there were actually two bridges so near to each other! One would be the visually impressive Tran Thi Ly Bridge with its massive sail-like design. The other was a pedestrian-only bridge; the Nguyen Van Troi Walking Bridge.
Originally built in 1965, "the 513-meter long bridge was the first bridge designed for vehicles crossing the Han River" but was converted to a pedestrian-only bridge in 2013 after a renovation.
Rules of usage (thanks to translate app) - including a max of 200 persons on the 10.5-meter wide bridge, restriction of motor vehicles, and the notification that the bridge would be raised / lowered between 4 to 6pm on weekends and public holidays!
On the right; the cable-stayed Tran Thi Ly Bridge with its "145-meter tower leaning 12 degrees to the west". At night, it lighted up like a humongous ship with red sails, anchored and damming the Han River.
Further down would be Da Nang Downtown (formerly known as Asia Park) that's managed by Sun World, noticeable with the 115-meter tall Sun Wheel.
Left side of the Nguyen Van Troi Walking Bridge would be another eye-catching bridge; Dragon Bridge (Cầu Rồng). Click here for more closed up photos of the bridge!
Coming back to Nguyen Van Troi Walking Bridge, it was originally known as Nguyen Hoang bridge but renamed to Nguyen Van Troi Bridge in honor of a local hero when Vietnam was united after the war.
Steps leading down; for maintenance staff obviously.
Key feature of the walking bridge was its bright yellow color; and its architecture that consisted of "14 spans of Poni steel piles" that stacked and cut across half a kilometer with its wave like design. Now I wonder how they would be raised / lowered. Maybe just the middle segment?
The end!
