Bánh Mì Cô Tiên @ Da Nang in Vietnam

Even though banh mi is my favorite dish in the Vietnamese cuisine, I always wonder why I didn't manage to eat as much as I could in my past two trips to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi

Therefore, I made it a point to check out more banh mi stores in my most recent visit to Vietnam; specifically Da Nang and Hoi An. Today, this particular store was so obscure; you wouldn't even see the signboard from the main road! Hint: look out for this super noticeable Cong Spa and Nail shop.

Walk into the alley beside the shop and you would see this standing board pointing the direction of Bánh Mì Cô Tiên. Just follow the direction further in. It could be eerie at night but I timed my visit in the daytime.

More directions.
Keep your faith and follow.

This was it; Bánh Mì Cô Tiên which was about 60 meters deep from the start of the alley. It felt so much like I was trespassing into the private residence of a local Vietnamese! Well, this would make the experience more unique!

If not the separately placed tables and chairs, this would have been one of the typical Vietnamese homes! Boy, that clock hung near the staircase was so 70s!

As Alex wasn't keen to have banh mi, I had to slowly choose from the 15 different kinds on the menu! While I had always preferred barbecued pork, I noted it wasn't the best seller. Hence, I opted for a banh mi that was simple yet listed as best seller; banh mi trung.

The baguette was crusty and chewy; two attributes I deemed as necessary for a good banh mi. Most importantly, the banh mi wasn't flattened, as in the case of Banh My Mama in Hanoi, which would have greatly affected the satisfaction.

You know what this reminded me of? Omelette on toast, albeit in the baguette in this case, with more ingredients like pate, coriander, cabbage etc. The omelette was steaming hot but overall, digging into this banh mi gave me a comfortable homely feel, like it came from the hands of my mom!

Never regret! p.s.shall check out the other best sellers next year.
