Despite having nasi lemak from Village Park just about three hours ago, we found ourselves outside of Midvalley Megamall, in front of NALÉ - The Nasi Lemak Company. Yes, nasi lemak again!
Reason being that the Greatest Kon follows an influencer and who mentioned that NALÉ has the best nasi lemak! Hence, since we were in Kuala Lumpur, why waste the trip to assess whether the nasi lemak was indeed as claimed.
There was a dazzling selection of nasi lemak items on the menu (shall share at the end of this post) and it was such a hassle deciding what to have, considering each of us had already indulged in nasi lemak earlier. Here's the three dishes, to be shared amongst four persons!
Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng - basic version that featured boneless chicken that was cutlet style sprinkled with what appeared to be berempah bits.
Rice was aromatic but a tad too dry and since the memory of Village Park (VP) was still fresh in our mind; we all agreed that the chicken in VP was much better. Sambal chilli wise, it's a spicier yet less sweet version which might appeal to some. Not me.
Ayam Bakar NALÉ - opted for this without rice. Highlight for this was the signature NALÉ sauce, said to be found only at NALÉ, drenched over the grilled chicken.
Highly viscous, this reminded me of the gravy from satay, albeit not as sweet! I think it's a good opportunity for NALÉ to explore using this delicious sauce for dishes other than nasi lemak; maybe can R&D for its usage on seafood, and even a creamy base for pasta!
Indomie Ayam Bakar - shall talk about the grilled chicken here instead; meat was tender, juicy with that irresistible, nicely charred skin that tasted smoky!
Honestly, it's seldom hard to feel people rejecting the national noodle of Indonesia, the Indomie! The texture of the noodles was on point and taste was enjoyable, as it has always been with Indomie! Among the three dishes, this is the best for me!
=====
For me, the sauce used for nasi lemak was important but at the same time, I believe in a harmonious synergy between all ingredients to wow my taste buds. NALÉ was not bad but I don't personally think it has the best nasi lemak...
