In the old Jurong Bird Park, the Lory Loft was my favourite zone and excitement enveloped me when I stepped into the Lory Loft Zone at the new Bird Paradise Mandai!
Compared to the expansive, elevated sight in the past where the lories soard in front of you, the current lory loft didn't particularly stand out. I stepped in not knowing the differences from zones like songs of the forest.
And the birds appeared to be hiding! To be fair, the old bird park used to sell honeyed water to entire the lories. Guess they are trying to stop bird feeding so that the birds' diet wouldn't be affected.
Just look out for the feeders for the bright, chatty lories!
Do you know that I almost got a lory as a pet? And the reason why I didn't was because of the way lories defecate. I heard they have the tendency to raise their butt before shitting, resulting in splatters on the sides, rather than bottom of the cage!
And while lories (or lorikeets) are parrots, they can't talk. However, their chattering can be quite irritating, although it might be quite cute as it might appear to be responding to you.
It's not news that the birds at Bird Paradise Mandai have been damaging the new facility. From the look of the above picture, I am guessing the maintenance people would be replacing the ropes with metal wires!
Was it from Tom and Jerry?
This was so pretty!
Lory Loft back in Jurong was exclusively for lories. But this was a cockatoo! Specifically, it's the blue-eyed cockatoo, as evidenced by the blue ring around its eyes.
Hot, hot, hot! I guess those afraid of heat should consider delaying their visit to Bird Paradise Mandai, so that the surrounding trees would grow bigger, with a wider canopy to shelter us weak humans.
Taking a rest at this air-conditioned arena before we proceeded to the next zone! With the huge screen in front, it felt as if we were watching a documentary, on birds of course!
Photographs of dad with the birds!
Video of the chattering lories!
