Chinatown Street Light Up (Night Time) for Lunar New Year 2021 - Year of The Ox / Bull @ Singapore #yearoftheox #chinatownstreetlightup2021

I posted the pictures for the
street light up in Chinatown before lunar new year but the photographs were all taken in the daytime when the lanterns would not have made sense to be lighted up; hence, I purposely took a trip down again at night with my dad to soak in the pretty, festive atmosphere.

Instead of going to the main area, Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road, where most of the lanterns were; we decided to start with the marketplace area. Note: these were taken three days before the year of the ox started.

Temple street, without the tentage. In the past, during this period of time, this street would have been chocked with humans jostling to take a look at what were for offer at the temporary stalls, have some samples and maybe haggle with the stall keepers for better promotions!

South Bridge Road, with its lanterns featuring all twelve zodiac animals strung across the wide, one-way road. Don't you think they were much more beautiful when they were lighted up?

You still have chance to check them out as the light up would continue till 12 March 2021.

Finally, the shimmering centrepiece in between Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road; the lights, looking like speckles of jewel shining from within, played an important role of drawing all the attention to the 10-m tall ox!

From this angle, the ox looked as if it's smiling!

Bringing my dad to my favourite spot to take photographs! Actually, having a tripod would be helpful to advantage of the vantage location although I like going up also because I enjoy the quietness of the place and if I am lucky, having the comfortable breeze brush against my rough skin.

Down to the street level again where the ox amazed us with its muscular, majestic stature.

The 4-character, Chinese greetings in lantern forms; as mentioned previously in my post here, examples are happy new year, may all your wishes come true, may there be surplus every year.

The various oxen dotted alongside the small patch of greenery separating Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road. It's a pity that the roads would not be closed to vehicular traffic as you can't get close enough to take a selfie with the oxen!

Technically you can but be prepared to risk your safety which wouldn't be worth it; furthermore, the rope barrier and fences would not result in a nice photograph anyway.

Overlooking Pagoda Street at night! Quite crowded although definitely not at the same scale as in previous years when it's mere days from the lunar new year! Back then, it was really people mountain people sea!

Once again, temple street from the other end.

Same stretch in between Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road but this segment featured illuminated oxen with bamboo lanterns. Using the natural canopies of the original trees on site, it felt as if they were part of the bamboo lanterns!

Last segment; for the last two photographs, they did appear as if the words were floating instead of being strung up with electrical ways! One way to enjoy the sights was to take a double decker bus with a route along Eu Tong Sen Street / New Bridge Road.
