Despite travelling to Bangkok ever so often for holiday, I don't have a hotel that i always go back to as i made it a point to try new accommodation for the purpose of reviewing it on this blog.
For my recent trip in January 2020; i had the intention to go back to one of the hotels that i reviewed but another one caught my attention. It's co-located with the new Samyan Mitrtown shopping complex, conveniently connected to Sam Yan MRT station and was opened for business just a few months ago!
I was expecting the room rate for the Triple Y Hotel to be astronomical and beyond my budget of S$100 a night but i got a pretty good deal with Trip.com for one deluxe room over four nights, without breakfast.
The travel and hospitality industry nowadays is unlike the one a decade or two ago; many people travel free and easy, the world is a lot more globalised and travellers are out to experience something different. Accommodation is trying to do catch up and i think Triple Y did a great job in wowing us when we entered its lobby.
Designer art pieces took key positions within the lobby and one of them was called "Alex Face". Bearing the same namesake of the Alex who frequently appears in this blog, it was a large piece of artwork by Mr Patcharapol Tangruen; "a well known graffiti artist in Thailand".
Another eye-catching installation which has a practice use; the colourful mailbox room for the retailers! Search for triple y hotel and i bet you would find a few photos of this mail room. Even non-hotel guests would pop to take a few photographs for their social media accounts!
On my first night; i have already noticed this motorcycle, tuk-tuk-like vehicle at the lobby that had a coffee machine. I would have assumed the drinks would be free for guests.
However, the price list seemed to suggest otherwise.
It's only on my third day that i checked and my initial assumption was correct; hotel guests would get complimentary drinks (there's even fruit-infused water)! You just need to show your room card! I am not a big fan of Western-style coffee but cheapo me downed like two cups of latte macchiato a day since then.

Room
An improvement over the years for hotel accommodation is that many corridors are now installed with white lights and you can sometimes find windows that allow natural lighting to shine in, in the daytime.
1003 - located on the tenth floor of this 102-room establishment.
Let's give it a knock; as per instructed in the ten taboos to note.
Modern, cozy room that's bigger than the Bangkok's norm at 34 square meters. Even though i am not allergic to carpets, i do like it when hotel rooms don't have carpets. Whenever i see carpet, the thought in my mind would be "how often do they vacuum it" as i can't really see the dust hidden deep inside.
Unfortunately, the bed was too soft for me and i took refuge at the day bed instead for about two nights when i just couldn't fall into a deep sleep! The problem lies with me as Alex absolutely adores the softness!
It's a nice little corner that could accommodate another person if budget is tight. And i super love the long pillows which would be a good replacement for bolsters. Weirdly, we don't really see hotels providing bolsters in their rooms. Maybe i can ask my boss the next time i see him as he used to manage hotels.

Air-conditioning would appeal to my polar bear friends (known as people who dislike heat and are better suited to live in the arctics); it's strong and i think the actual temperature was a few notches lower than reported!
Like Dorsett Mongkok Hotel in Hong Kong, there's a smartphone which you can bring out. Knowing my penchant for losing things; i am too scared to bring it up! I did use it to raise a few questions with the staff; including my request for late check out! As you can see from the above photo; they have three-pin power outlets!
The usual complimentary bottled water and electric kettle. While it's eco-friendly to provide glass bottles; it's a hassle to bring them out and most of the times, you can't screw back the cap. :(
A few interesting things were provided at Triple Y Hotel. Traditional, comfortable Thai attire (looks like the kind we used when we go for massages) which was fantastic as pajamas; a reusable shopping bag since Bangkok has banned the use of single-use plastic bags; outdoor slippers that can be worn out if your footwear were to decide to give way in the land of shopping.
Photographs of the washroom; the shower room and toilet were separated which means one can brush teeth, another can shit and a third person can shower at the same time! The Sg one of the bottles means shower gel; not Singapore.
What's this weird thing?! It's actually the deadbolt and i am super impressed with it as it's so user-friendly (just need to press the red switch) and appeared way more secure than the common one.
Miscellaneous
There's no swimming pool for hotel guests which isn't that big an issue for Alex and I. We prefer a gym over a pool actually and the one for Triple Y Hotel is at this collective area that contains meeting space too.

Rather well equipped even though we would prefer a multi-fitness station that would have allowed us to better train our legs and chests! Free mineral water in the fridge; p.s. i lamented earlier that glass bottles were hard to bring out and i admit i would take the bottled water from the gym instead.
Our hotel is also next to Chulalongkorn University; ranked 1st in the whole of Thailand, i can imagine hotel rates to spike whenever it's school vacations and there are major international conferences held within the university.
The relaxing meeting spaces in the collective area; it didn't have that "business meetings" feel and i honestly feel that they could include a few vending machines to encourage hotel guests to mingle with each other. Well, if you really need food / drinks, two 7-11 convenience stores are located within a stone's throw from the hotel.
