Dong Nguyen is renowned for their chicken rice but coming from Singapore, where chicken rice stalls are aplenty and there are a ton of good stalls, I was curious yet wonder how would this Dong Nguyen version compares with the ones from our little red dot.
Do note that the main store, with all the action (it was crowded) and seating, was next door. I didn't try the chicken rice though as it was right after a heavy dim sum breakfast and the Great Kon, being a frequent visitor to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), had already tried it before. Verdict was that Singaporeans can give the chicken rice a miss.
He did mention that we should get this signature drink from Dong Nguyen. At just 15,000 Dong (less than S$1), it tasted like chrysanthemum tea mixed with longan. In traditional Chinese medicine, chrysanthemum is known for its cooling effect, and rightfully so under the hot sun we were walking under. Thirst quenching!
Menu as appended above in case you would like to give Dong Nguyen a try. According to one Singaporean reviewer on Google Map, he did give glowing reviews for the steamed soups.
