I love muah chee; to the extent that I even had a recipe in this blog that teaches you to make it yourself right at home, without the need to pay for exorbitant pricing!
Across Singapore, muah chee has the same texture and look but in my most recent trip to Bangkok, I chanced upon a uniquely different muah chee, and it came in deep fried form! p.s. yes, like golden lumps of dog poo.
Upon order, the stall operator would cut the deep fried muah chee into smaller pieces. This action would be similar to our local version although trying to cut our local muah chee might result in a sticky, frustrating situation!
After the cutting, it's putting into more spoonful of the sugar, peanuts and sesame seeds blend before you mix everything up. Again, comparable action to our local muah chee, although we generally don't use sesame seeds.
Completed mixture!
Now's the taste test!
Surprisingly interesting and I absolutely love the crunch that enveloped the sticky muah chee within! Taste wise, there was an added saltiness that enhanced palatability and a nicer aroma coming from both the white and black sesame seeds. While I had a great time devouring every 'nugget'; there was one irritating issue; this Thai style muah chee had the tendency to stick in between my teeth!
Pricing: Only 30 baht a pack.
Location: Chinese Foods Market @ Bangkok Chinatown
