The Cliff Restaurant in Langkawi - Overseeing Cenang Beach and a Great Place to Catch the Sunset @ Malaysia

The trip to Langkawi in July was planned to be relaxing and i guess it would be great to catch the sunset while having a mug of beer on our first day; to ensure we have the mental capacity to go back to our hotel, we chose the nearby The Cliff Restaurant

I wouldn't quite describe the location as a cliff but its elevated position does provide quite a nice view of the famous and touristy Cenang beach; which looks spectacular at low tide.

Those looking for air-conditioning would be disappointed.
Hence, do dress light and pray for wind.

Main restaurant which was empty when we arrived at about 6.00 pm; quite a surprise if you ask me since it was dinnertime and its review rating on Google and TripAdvisor was a pretty good 4.0.

Hunger hadn't arrived yet and we thought the bar section (known as D’Reef) was a lot more appealing when it comes to the view of Cenang beach. I also noticed that with all the clouds in the sky; sunset would not likely be impressive.

Two views to choose from; the one overlooking the signature beach or the one facing rebak islands. Well, i think it's more fun to look at people.

Furthermore, it was breathtaking with the fuzzy Manchincang Mountain on the background! At night, you can actually a row of lights going up the mountain; it's actually for the cables of Langkawi Cable Car.

While my travel mates were given the responsibility to order the drinks and snacks, i wandered to other parts of the dining establishment for photo-taking; must capture more angles mah.

For those looking for a romantic dinner. Personally, i think the restaurant needs to splurge more on the decorations to up the image; tiled flooring would be a good start.

View of Cenang beach from the non-bar section.

First picture was taken from the toilet - the restaurant would definitely benefit from a fresh coat of paint. Second picture shows the scenery next to the washroom; that's a real cliff.

Taken about 30 minutes later.

Activities at Cenang beach - quite the usual stuff like parasailing and jetski which i never try during our trip. I am more a snorkeling person and it's not as if activities like parasailing are cheap to begin with. p.s. as expected, the sunset was blocked by clouds.

Before i start with the review of the food; let me share a time lapse video taken of Cenang Beach! A separate post on the beach would be posted soon.

Starting with beer!

Snacks to accompany our beer; Seafood Combo (prawn tempura, fish cocktail, calamari with wasabi mayo and Thai chilli dip) and Popiah Rangup (deep fried spring roll and samosa with Thai chilli dip).

One word to summarize the finger food; mediocre! Although i can still stomach most of them with the chilli dip, i have to surrender when it comes to the calamari as it was mushy with a bland taste! Likely frozen for everything.

You wouldn't believe it but because the finger food was so lousy; we decided to order something substantial from the menu and opted for the most expensive item - the RM 264 Aquarius Club! Frankly, our reasoning is absurd!

Good for 2 persons, it came with a lobster, king prawns, mussels, fish fillet, soft shell crabs, salad and mashed potatoes! Just the indication on the menu was sufficient to make us salivate!

Pity it failed to impress again and that's extremely disappointing given that the Aquarius Club was their house signature with a chef-recommended icon on the menu.

To be fair, most of the items like soft shell crabs, fish fillet and lobster were average taste. Worst was the serving of king prawns which lacked the freshness i would have expected from a good restaurant. If i am ever back to The Cliff again, it would only be a glass of beer sitting in front of me at D’Reef section while i soaked in the sunset.
