The wooden warehouse above actually houses a museum showcasing traditional steam locomotives that serviced the Alishan Forest Railway, and wouldn't have attracted much interest from me. We still visited since there wasn't any admission fee!
Museum aside, the one thing that I will strongly recommend to all visitors to the Fenqihu 1912 Loco Shed (also known as Fenqihu Garage) would be to check out this takeaway counter on the side within the building.
Part of a cafe, the most important thing to look out for would be the small cups of ice cream samples on the counter; regardless of what flavours they were, just grab and give it a try!
And if you were like me; my eyes popped when I took a bite of the wasabi ice soft serve and I knew I needed much more to satisfy the sudden spike of craving! Problem was, one cost NT$150 and two were priced at just NT$200! Of course I had to get two!
Sakura Ice Cream - how would sakura taste like? I wouldn't know since I haven't had the chance to even catch a glimpse of Japanese national flower. Looking all pretty with bits of fried sakura (I presume), I could only say that sakura ice cream tasted suspiciously like our local bandung (rose)!
Wasabi Ice Cream - now, I would willingly give my money for the wasabi instead! The flavor was on point; refreshing and intense, yet not to the extent of making my eyes tear, and my nose water!
So good it was; I regretted not buying two of the same flavor for NT$200, so that I didn't have to share with Alex! One thing to note though; the ice cream was more the icy soft served type, and will not appeal to those who prefer creamier ice cream.
