After changing hotels every day for the last few days, we finally checked in to Chateau de Chine Hotel Kaohsiung (高雄翰品酒店), where we shall be staying for three long nights!
Stepping in to the hotel lobby was a bright reception adorned with festive decorations that looked kind of out of place, although necessary to celebrate the most important festival of the year, the lunar new year!
A 4-star hotel with over 150 rooms, Chateau de Chine Hotel Kaohsiung was located in the yancheng district that's nearer to the pier 2 attraction but well-serviced by an MRT line (walk of only about 200-300 meters) connected to the rest of the city.
Thing I love about hotels in Taiwan; they would painstakingly come out with a map for guests, highlighting helpful recommendations for nearby food establishments and attractions. It didn't quite matter to me since I usually plan in advance.
Key cards collected, with helpful information included.
p.s. we booked without breakfast.
Whenever I book a hotel room, I would always indicate under special instructions for a high floor room and extra pillows! With just 11 floors, I was more than happy to be given a room on the 10th floor; although the high floor was an issue when we encountered an earthquake later that night!
Our Deluxe Family Room; with a comfortable area of 33 meters square, this came with two queen-sized beds. Now, I also cannot remember why I booked a family room since it was just Alex and I.
I forgot to take a picture of the view outside the window but it could be because there's nothing impressive about it. Just a park in front of a river, and buildings at the back.
Very small study table. While I have a tendency to check my work email via my laptop when I was overseas; I didn't have to do it this as I was on mandatory block leave (MBL)! p.s. MBL should be compulsory for every company!
Other amenities within the room; including provision of USB ports, biscuits, great pillows and beds, and even a weighing scale! For water, it wouldn't be in bottled form. Glass jars were placed in the room and you can refill from the water dispenser on each floor.
Loving the Japanese bidet in the washroom!
A separate area for shower and bathtub! Maybe this would be the basic setup for Deluxe Family Room since it would be much more efficient with more people staying in the same room.
Business Centre
Literally just two cubicle spaces, I wonder if it is still necessary to include this for hotels nowadays since laptops are much more widely used, and what's more important is network connectivity. I don't even have a printer at home nowadays.
Laundry Room
A free, self serviced laundry room, I should have washed some clothes since I was there for three nights! However, I am not very well versed in using the dryer, and back at Grande Centre Point Ratchadamri, I actually damaged a few pieces of clothing.
While Chateau de Chine Hotel didn't have a swimming pool (quite a surprise for a 4-star hotel), I was happy to find a gymnasium! The location was a bit obscure as it was hidden at the corner of a floor filled with function rooms.
Been a while since I last exercised as both Dafeng Villa and Fenchihu Hotel, the two accommodations before then, didn't have a gym. Had great workouts for the next few days, with the treadmills and dumbells although my body would benefit more with heavier weights and weight machines.
Plastic water bottles in the gym! For sustainability, water dispenser with paper cups should have been provided instead. Nonetheless, they were still useful. I know, humans can be so contradicting.
Guest Lounge
Usually, I would associate usage of this with club room access but no, this lounge was open to all the guests in the hotel, at no extra charge!
In addition to a free space, the hotel even provided soft drinks, coffee, tea and even supposedly old school Taiwanese biscuits for guests! There's something else that appealed to me more.
Free flow beer tap from Taiwan Beer! It's a pity that this would only be function from 6.00pm to 10.00pm and, I never had the chance to check it out as I either forgot about the time, was too full or still outside. :(
I don't usually cover hotel car parks but since we rented a car in Taiwan for ease of movement this time, I guess might as well include this in should there be readers who are interested to rent a car as well.
The carpark for Chateau de Chine Hotel Kaohsiung wasn't in the same building! It's diagonally across a main road, which was inconvenient, yet not exactly very far. Only concern was if it were to rain, which didn't happen throughout our stay.
There were lifts but it was faster for us to just walk up! I think my mind was too relaxed on this 11-day trip to Taiwan; told myself to take photographs of the hotel from the top floor of this multi-storey carpark and it didn't happen!
Chateau de Chine Hotel Kaohsiung right across!
=====
My three-night stay was said to be too much, according to friends who commented that one or two nights will be sufficient to explore Taiwan's third largest city. Having gone through the three nights for real, I am actually planning for more nights in the future! Three nights are not enough!
