Stopping Within the Yellow Boxes

Since April last year, i have been jogging relatively regularly around my estate for three reasons; to reduce my waistline, to rekindle the joy in jogging which i enjoyed greatly in my teens and also because i am too stingy to pay for gym membership.

As i am 'on the road' literally on an almost daily basis, there are little pet peeves that i would encounter. In the past, it was more the portable mobility devices (PMD) and while the situation has improved given the updated regulations, many continued to flout the rules.

It's unfortunate as the majority is following the rules but enforcement has always been an issue. It's like the army's infamous tagline that every Singaporean man would be aware of; "you can do anything you want, so long you don't get caught".

Anyway, my pet peeve today is not the PMDs; it's with relation to the popular McDonald's drive through at Yishun Safra. As the clubhouse is next to Yishun Park, it's normal to see many joggers in that area, especially in the evening and at night.

There's actually a yellow box along the drive through which means vehicles shouldn't stop there at all time. Aside from not blocking users of the pedestrian walkway, another reason is safety. Once a vehicle stops there, joggers, pedestrians, cyclists etc would either go in front or behind the vehicle to continue their journey and that's dangerous given the potential blind-spots.

This is one classic example; there was once i jogged to the back of the car and the vehicle suddenly rolled back due to the slope. Thankfully, i was just a few inches shy from being knocked down. As the 'road' may be considered as a private one, would there be enforcement by the traffic police? Enlighten please.
