Nice Snack Corner @ Yishun

Whenever people ask me if there are good food in Yishun, the Yishunian in me will always proudly say that there are tonnes of them.

That's the main reason why i will not likely move out of Yishun, despite the financial incapability at the moment!

Nice Snack Corner (aka 美點小食店) is, obviously, under the "good food" category.

Since my secondary school days (kaoz, more than 14 years ago!), this place has been a favourite haunt of mine and you will probably find me there every now and then.

A small coffee shop setting with make-shift tables and chairs, there are only three products for sale; hot/cold desserts, popiah and laksa!

With a wide range of desserts for selection, you will be spoilt for choice! My sister will always order ice kacang but for me, it depends on mood and weather!

At times, it's ice chendol with its heavy use of coconut milk that is guaranteed to soothe any stressful emotion in a bad day!

I used to hate the ingredients of these cold desserts when i was young. Age really changes the hormones!!!

Ice jelly was another personal preference, especially when the weather is melting hot!!!! Oh, i forgot to mention why i like the desserts here!

One, for comparison, a bowl of ice kacang only costs S$1.20; two, it's not a small bowl; three, after all the good food in Yishun, this is a great finale to end a fulfilling meal!

Just having a bowl of dessert is not enough; we must have some side dishes to keep the mouth moving! Nothing too heavy, like a roll of popiah!

Before i tried the popiahs in Qiji, these were my favourite! Yum Yum.

Want to know about the laksa? Wait long long okay because i seldom have craving for laksa and with so much good food around, you might have to wait long long!

Coin Dozer Again!!

I must be CRAZY!!!!

Long suspecting that crazy is my middle name, i never know i can be so persistent to continue playing this iPhone application (that i blogged just a few weeks ago HERE) till i hit a stash of 10,000 coins!!

It's not as if i have nothing better to do! However, Cavin does love challenges and after hitting the one k mark, i know i have to strive further to test if i can hit the 10k!!

To tell you the truth, the strategy i adopted as mentioned HERE turns out to be pretty helpful and i managed to gain so many prizes, i maxed out the collection bonuses!

Upon reaching the 10,000 jackpot, I thought my addiction is finally over..........

Until this bloody developer (Game Circus) came out with another dozer-like application called, of all things, Cookie Dozer!

Thankfully, it's my gluttonous belief that food should be eaten and not treated as playthings! *slap the fingers*

For the skeptics who thought i have 0000 coins, please find above the picture with 9999 coins!!! Now try to beat that!!!!! Wahahahaha

Karaoke Again! - With The Sisters! @ Party World KTV

I mentioned HERE i would love to go for another singing session at KBox but my sisters decided to try Party World Yishun instead since it's so much more convenient for the Teo family.

To tell you the truth, i am really impressed with Party World!!

The room decoration was really posh when compared to Kbox. To induce that partying mood, flashing, interchangeable soft lights (not the eye irritating types) were used instead of the usual spotlights!

Two LARGE side by side LCD monitors that were a pleasure to have to enhance the singing experience!

Drinks were so yummy (note: a bit on the sweet side)!! I especially love the Jasmine Milk Tea!

Fancy a game to decide who will be the next person to sing?

The bestest best thing i like about Party World?

A foot massager was available in every room!!!!

Look at this lady (with her face cropped out although the ugly looking pants were an instant giveaway); she can sing while having a comfortable and relaxing foot massage!

Yu Kee Duck Rice (友记鸭饭) @ Yishun

Like most children, i hated any food that was either not brightly coloured (with exception for brightly green vegetables) or non deep fried in my innocent days!

One classic example satisfying the above conditions was braised products.

The dark, soil-coloured exterior really put me off initially........until my mom shoved a spoonful of dark coloured rice with an equally coloured duck meat into my mouth.

Though young, i found it to be damn delicious and since then, if i want braised duck rice, it has to come from Yu Kee. Nowhere else but Yu Kee (also known affectionally in my family as Ah Ba Yu)!

Drenching the rice and duck meat was a special braised sauce i strongly suspected to be the one reason for my repeated visits. It had that unbeatable herbal flavour that gave me cravings every now and then!

Another plausible reason must be the soil coloured soup; tasted like a watered-down version of the braised sauce!

=====

Though Yu Kee has many branches in Singapore, my preference has always been the one i patronised since young. Right in the coffeeshop directly opposite Yishun MRT station.

Location
Block 744, Yishun Street 72.
There's only one coffeeshop in that block!

Price
For a plate like the one i had above [with an additional braised egg (slice), tofu and peanuts], the price hovered between S$3.00 and S$3.50.

Octa Hotel @ Parco Marina Bay

Don't be misled by the word "hotel" because you really can't pay and sleep in, expecting basic accommodation service.

Originating from Japan since 1989, this quaint French-inspired place gave the initial impression that it's a boutique selling quirky items ranging from flowery plates to jewellery to clothes.

Only when you peeked in with cat-like curiosity that you realise there's a cafe in operation too!

We just had dinner at Keisuke Tokyo and it's about time we had some desserts!! Which, by the way, looked really mouth-watering in the pictures!

Here's what our stomachs took in that day!

Royal Milk Tea
At S$9.00 per cup, you can choose either honey or caramel.  Though the flavour was pretty distinctive, i still prefer my usual cup of teh (tea with milk) in the kopitiams.

Three Layered Cheesecake
Having had my fair share of cheesecakes, this was above average but not exceptional given the hefty price tag of S$8.80 for a slice!

The especially disappointing taste came from the bottom layer, which most of us known as the biscuit. It had a flaky, airy feel and tasted really off.

I would have gladly paid a lesser amount (a dollar cheaper) for a slice of rum and raisin cheesecake from The Cheesecake Cafe.

Cappucino Mushroom Soup
This was recommended and i wasn't disappointed!!!

Super particular when it comes to mushroom soup (having taken a lot of mushroom soups that just couldn't meet the cut), i found this milky concoction heavenly without being overly thick!

And the chunks of diced mushrooms were just a delight to have; chew and let the delightful fragrance of fungi fill up the mouth and slowly swallow them to have an orgasmic food experience.

I am sorry. I really LOVE mushrooms!!

What's soup without a piece of garlic bread?! Correction! This wasn't garlic! It was butter sprinkled with parsley! Damn nice!! According to mister love-loads-and-loads-of-bread-with-soup (Alex), it was the best he ever had!

Chestnut Tiramisu
Another recommendation! I am reserving my comment on this since i frankly don't understand why tiramisu is so well loved by many!

The other three persons love this low fat version but to me, what's the best deal man!!!

Original French Toast
This was the highlight as the picture of this dish was the main reason of enticement for the gang of four.

At S$13.90, it's pricey and worth every cent! For one, there were so many not-cheap berries lor!!!!

Now coming to the taste review, this dish can be a bit sweet for those healthy freaks. However, it's unlike any other french toast i had.

The nearest thing that came to my mind when i took a bite was that of a bread pudding i ever had!

=====

This is DECEIVING! God knows how many people have walked in and asked the rate for a room!

Looking like a typical key counter for the various rooms in a hotel, it is actually the receipt slot for the diners! The number corresponds with the table number you dine at!

Location
9, Raffles Boulevard,
Millenia Walk, P1-39,
Parco Marina Bay.

(Not to be confused with Parco Bugis Junction or Marina Bay Sands)

Price
Royal Milk Tea - S$9.00
Cheesecake- S$8.80
Mushroom Soup- S$11.90
Chestnut Tiramisu- S$10.50
Original Fresh Toast- S$13.90

Subject to 10% Service Charge and 7% GST. Plain water was dispensed at no additional cost.

Additional Information
With a seating capacity of 40, Octa Hotel cafe captures my attention with its decor that exudes a laid back, relax attitude that is totally me (or at least what i really wish to be)!

Don't ask me if it's the mood but i felt that the services i was given in Parco Marina Bay (be it Keisuke Tokyo, Octa Hotel or the shops) were extremely commendable!

My iPhone

I have never regretted the day i bought the increasingly common iPhone back in April (or was it March) 2010.

The decision was made after i got my iPod Touch for free when i recontracted with SingNet roughly two years ago! Loving its capabilities, it's natural to upgrade to an iPhone eventually.

It's been a happy, blissful three months.
Until i broke the glass screen!!!

F*beep*k!
