Detailed Postings for the Day
Start of an overseas vacation at a nice timing just past noon means there were plenty of energy! So, let's take a photo before clearing the immigration at the departure hall of Changi International Airport.
I am always curious about the skytrains shuttling so close to the Rain Vortex at Jewel Changi that we decided to check it out; a surreal experience for sure yet getting the so near yet so far feeling.
Having small bowl noodles first since no meal would be provided on our plane ride via Scoot. Not a big issue for us since we had already been informed by the tour agency beforehand, and I always prefer local food, before a long overseas vacation.
In case our tummies were to get to bored during the five-hour flight, I prepared by purchasing some nyonya kueh from Bengawan Solo. Damn, I am going to get fat.
Time to go towards the departure gate.
Plane departed at about 5pm and boy do I dislike long flights. Even though I am not tall, the fact that I can't sleep on the plane, without a bed given I am not rich enough for a Business / First Class ticket, made the journey pretty torturing..... Luckily I downloaded some movies / dramas on my phone to watch.
Landed safely at 9.30pm, cleared China customs at 10.30pm and another 50 minutes' coach ride to SSAW Boutique Hotel (成均君廷大酒店)! So absolutely shagged out that I didn't bother taking many photographs as the main objective then was to wash up, and plonk myself onto the bed for a good rest.
Fast forward to the hotel breakfast the next morning! A nice cold morning where warm food shall perk up our stomachs. Nothing spectacular which is quite the norm for most hotel breakfasts I feel.
Start of my coach ride, which shall take us around four hours. Since we were from the tiny city state of Singapore, we had a field checking out the vastness of China, including the many views that were literally impossible in Singapore.
Toilet break halfway through! Impressed to see people squatting down to have meals; I mean I can do the Asian squats too but it's another level to squat and have a full meal!
Visually so mentally therapeutic.
As the coach drove further and further away from Hangzhou City, one of 19 first-tier cities in China, the scenery changed from city to agricultural and finally to a landscape surrounded by rolling mountains.
Arrival at lunch venue!
Damn, I am still full from breakfast.
While it was already spring, it was still cold and the trees were bare. Nevertheless, us tropical folks were still loving the coolness, where it's not easy to break into a sweat!
Our objective for signing up for this 8-day tour was to visit Huangshan (a UNESCO world heritage site) and it's a surprise that we will be checking it out on our official first day of our tour! So be prepared for loads of photos in this First Day at Huangshan!
Starting with an internal shuttle bus first, that can sit 35 persons. Pretty cramped and we were glad that we didn't had to lug along our big pieces of luggage. p.s. were already informed that for this one night stay at Huangshan, we should just have a hand carry.
Splendour of China's number 1 mountain right in front of us upon arrival at the top of the cable car station. The massiveness of this mountain range spanning 1,200 square kilometers, although core scenic area is about 160.6 square kilometers.
Now's the time for the torturing, never-ending climb that Huangshan is famous for too, aside from pine trees, rocks, sea of clouds, hot springs and winter snow.
Throughout the climb, a common sight would be that of the porters hauling up large quantity of goods on their shoulders. Despite the cold, they were sweating! Give way to them if you can!
See that thumb like rock on the far left?
Last stop for the hike, which was to the brightness summit where we were blessed with good weather, and an unblocked view of the various peaks, including the lotus peak, which has an elevation of 1,864 meters! Yes, not that tall actually.
Going back roughly the same route but not down the mountain!
Towards the direction of Shilin Hotel (黄山狮林大酒店)
Checked in, had a short rest and it's time for buffet dinner! Let's not waste the hard work of the porters who painstakingly delivered the in ingredients up the mountain! After dinner, there were some activities at the hotel lobby since outside would have been too dark! Click here for the details.
Sharing the Huangshan map before retiring for the night.
