That long stretch of sandy coastline took my breath away; according to the distance marked out on Google Maps, we are looking at more than 30 kilometers. In Singapore's context, it's longer than the distance covered from north to south of our country!
I noticed the beach on day one of my inaugural trip to Central Vietnam, when the private car we engaged drove towards Hoi An from Da Nang Airport. A few days, we GRAB over, and alighted at this section with beautifully painted coconut boats.
Pity I was wearing shoes and felt too lazy to remove them so that my toes can run through the fine sand. I actually went back to the coastline again but I was jogging then; so the shoes shall remain on my feet!
Loving this photo artwork with a simple message, "I Love Danang", surrounded by stalks of white, spinning pinwheels that worked their magic with the sea breeze. Don't you find pinwheels therapeutic?
Northern side of the coastline, which ended in about five kilometers. We actually came from there, after checking out the Son Tra Marina with its Santorini vibes.
A more notable attraction nearer to the northern coastline will be the Linh Ứng Pagoda, that was blessed with Vietnam's tallest Guanyin statue, standing at 67 metres high!
Southern stretch disappeared into the horizon, where buildings get fainter as my eyes squirmed to get to the end of it, which would be closer to Hoi An, where we were at for the first few days of our Central Vietnam trip.
Waves were strong, reminding me of Kuta Beach at Bali.
And I am wondering if I would see a calmer sight next week.
Would you dare to play sea sports under such strong wave condition? Now, I am not afraid of dying but I am fearful of being severely injured, yet not dying; hence resulting in huge financial and emotional drains for my family.
More than just a touristy thing, the round coconut boat is a functional vessel still in use by the locals. From what I heard from a tour guide, once you get the hang of it, navigating the boat is easier than the conventional sampans.
Beach frisbee!
Setting sun behind us, which means the rising sun would be at the beachside. This was one of the reasons I die-die want to stay at one of the beach hotels along the coastline in my upcoming trip.
Random photographs; some sections were still open for swimming but with a yellow alert. People were surfing as well. I don't really quite get surfing; really that fun? I had a hairline fracture at my rib when I attempted once at the Flowrider surf simulator on board Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Sea.
Which sticks out like a sore thumb, by the way.
Supposed to be a multi-entertainment venue including massage, restaurant and nightclub. I didn't manage to find reviews on the restaurant but the massage one had really bad reviews; score of 2.9 on Google Maps.
What's this? An artillery gun battery?
Now, this befuddled me; turned out to be a changing room! It's like the perfect setting for the Canadian prank show "Just for Laughs"!
I am so going to having a beer and some bar sacks on the second floor of this unique eatery! More an Alex and Cavin thing, I would need to find some activities for my mom to do as she's not the kind to just sit back and relax.
Or send her to take photographs with the photo spots dotted along the coastline. With Alex of course since my mom loves company, and wouldn't explore alone, much less so in a foreign country!
Initially, I thought the whole stretch was known as My Khe beach, once known as the world's most beautiful beach, but it was more than just one beach. From Google Maps, I noted Man Thai beach, Danang beach, Maia beach, Non Nuoc beach, Tan Tra beach, Anbang beach.
This was known as My An beach.
And it had a lot more people.
This set of photographs were taken on the next day, when I went for a jog at about 7am, where I ran past the iconic dragon bridge and eventually reached the coastline, about 3 kilometers away from Haian Riverfront Hotel Da Nang.
As I was jogging, there's no way I am going to do so along the beaches, which would result in sand in my shoes, and also make it more difficult to jog! So the pavement it shall be.
Praying for no rain, and impressive sunrise every morning.
Stretch nearing the beaches were dotted with restaurants, many of which were selling seafood. This would be quite similar to East Coast Park in Singapore, although they have a lot more such establishments given the availability of space!
For your reference on the pricing from one of the eateries.
Do's and dont's for the beaches and the sidewalks.
Scratching my head about the "no picnics" rule.
No pets allowed. But I noticed quite a few dogs along the sidewalks. To be frank, I guess the key was to be considerate and clean up after your pets! For the "no picnic" rule, I am assuming beachgoers should just make it an important priority to remove all their rubbish.
Isn't it interesting?
A quaint tiny temple out of nowhere!
Stepping in out of curiosity and I can't seem to get more information about this temple, from the internet and even onsite. From the Chinese characters on the tablet on the center altar, it's to honor the eastern sea god. From Google translate, however, there was a conferment of god status to a person who helped the people. *confused*
Last few photographs before ending the post!
