I don't really plan a detailed itinerary when I travel nowadays and that means I could face a scenario where I am totally clueless on what to eat.
So, it was a frantic scramble on Google Maps when we were at Sapa Town, where we finally decided on CHỢ BẢN PHỐ, simply because review score was 4.3 (from just 6 reviewers)!
To be fair, it was near from where we were at and given the cold weather, what my family honestly really needed that time was some shelter from the cold, and something hot to warm our freezing tummies!
Interior decor for the eatery; guess it's playing to the Hmong ethnicity within the region, including the use of bamboo, which is a traditionally important construction material in Vietnam. Nevertheless, food matters most and here's what we had!
Chicken Pho - first up would be the chicken pho; given the cold weather, a piping hot soup was all we were looking forward to although I am not totally not into pho. It had that strong chicken taste which I generally would frown upon but all's forgiven for warming my body.
Beef Pho - Interestingly, the soup had the same flavour as the chicken pho! Sadly, the beef slices were tough and in comparison to the beef pho we had at MẸT Vietnamese Restaurant the day before; a lot lousier.
Fried Corn - freshly fried with a lightly sweetened batter, these corn kernels were so addictive! I should have tabao a few bags and eat them with a bottle of beer! That would have been so shiok!
Hot Milk Coffee - given it was my first cup of coffee for the day, I must admit my eyes almost popped out after taking a sip! This was intense espresso that had the ability to make someone who had not slept for 48 hours, to continue working for a few hours more!
My sister had to dilute it with water.
Just so it would be less of a shock for the taste buds.
