Quán Ụt Ụt - American BBQ Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City @ Vietnam

It was strange; coming to Vietnam for the first time and deciding to spend our stomach space on an a meal in an American BBQ restaurant. Don't we have Morganfield's in Singapore?!

Spread out over four floors, with the ground floor housing the main kitchen, Quán Ụt Ụt commanded a high 4.2 rating on Google with a massive 3,800 reviewers. That, to me, implies a lot and I love having dining variety on a trip.

Interior design for the restaurant; more American ranch concept and paying homage to the animal that's the main focus on their menu. From pictures to neon words and even the mascot; the pig, that is!

Our seating at the corner of the top floor! Like Pizza 4P's, the original founders of Quán Ụt Ụt are not Vietnamese! From the website, one is American and another is Australian.

Having tissue boxes are so underrated. Providing paper kitchen towel is the way to go, especially when you are eating barbecued food with your bare hands! p.s. I still greatly appreciate whenever eateries provide tissue boxes though.

Bottomless Plain Ice Tea & Roasted Sugarcane Juice - I was glad to have ordered unsweetened plain ice tea which was free flow (hence the name bottomless) as the sugarcane juice the rest ordered tasted even sweeter from the ones we have in Singapore, and it wasn't unlimited.

Pork Sausage and Roasted Pork Belly - separated items on the menu that was placed on the same plate. We well with the a full pork sausage and a half pork belly.

It was too large a piece and might be a feat for those with small mouths to chew. I have a big mouth and even I found the effort to be tedious. The crispy skin was welcome whereas there was no surprise to the flavor of the meat itself; you definitely need the pickled onions on the side to excite the taste buds.

You can choose from either Spicy Italian or Chicago Pepperoni for the sausage; we went with the former and I love the burst of salty juiciness with every bite, that also came with a perfect aftermath of spicy pepperiness!

Awesome Foursome Rib Platter
- when a group of foodies doesn't know what to order from the menu, a platter of a bit of everything is always preferred. In this case, the option allows us to choose 4 out of 6 available rib styles.

It also came with sides like kimchi, grilled okra, assorted pickles, corn on the cob, honey grilled pineapple and seasoned fries.

I didn't manage to try the pineapple but the rest of the sides were good, especially the pickled shitake mushrooms and the grilled okra (ladyfingers as we call them in Singapore)! Ordering more wouldn't burn a hole in the pocket too as a serving cost just 30,000 dong (about S$1.70).

Now on their signature pork ribs; the 6 styles were spicy gochukang, oh heo yeah saigon, memphis dry rub, bear creek blueberry, sticky fingers BBQ and carolina golden. Upon much deliberation, we went with the first four!

No complaint on the ribs as a whole; juicy with meat that easily slipped off from the bones. So the differentiation has to come from their respective marinated styles. Least favorite was memphis dry rub as it was just normal tasting ribs that I could get from BBQ Express. My heart was split between gochukang and bear creek blueberry; former was spicy yet addictive and latter had a sweet overlay with an incredibly interesting blueberry taste.

Burp! Right at this moment, while I am writing this review, I made the decision on which is my favorite. It has to be bear creek blueberry for its uniqueness, and I am hoping to eat it again!
