It was supposed to be a light lunch today but the rain that started from morning had significantly cooled down the country's temperature, and when i walked past Hwang's Korean Restaurant; i couldn't help thinking how blissful it would be if i could just have a bowl of their piping hot samgyetang!
As it was just phase two of post circuit breaker, there were strict safe distancing measures put in place. However, the enthusiasm and friendliness of the staff on duty continued. I am actually a frequent patron and it's always nice to see this particular staff on duty.
I am such a regular that once i made an order for No 18, Ginseng Chicken (Half); she knew i would have it without any rice (which minuses S$0.30 from the price) and would pass me two side servings of their delicious kimchi.
There's a weird eating habit of mine when it comes to having samgyetang. I would mix in kimchi to the soup and although some said this would make it even more difficult to taste the ginseng in the soup; i am absolutely in love of the amalgamated flavour!
At just S$6.50 (including a bowl of rice), this half chicken ginseng soup is a favourite among the university students; the broth was tasty, the chicken meat was tender and juicy. Family and friends whom i have brought to Hwang's had so far been impressed with both the price and quality of Hwang's samgyetang. Hardly surprising as the boss is actually Korean.
You can say a true fan would leave no soup and meat behind; the end of my samgyetang meal would only consist of an empty bowl and bones. I do have other favourites at Hwang's actually; when the mood comes for rice, i would either have spicy marinated pork belly or their beef + pork belly hot plate! Gosh, i am craving for them now!
