It's been five days since i last stepped out from my house and having to endure porridge, soup and plain fare for the past few days; my stomach was egging for something sinful at Hong Lim Hawker Centre this morning!
Char Kway Teow seemed promising and this one called Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee is supposedly famous with an awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand! Let's give it a try although 9.30 am might seem a bit too early for char kway teow.
Well, such early indulgence didn't stop the over ten persons in the queue! I understand from my sister who works in the vicinity that this would be considered short in the usual weekday lunch crowd.
My plate of char kway teow, added with an egg, after a wait of about 20 minutes! A few things i noticed; it was drier than the usually slightly wetter char kway teow and the noodles appeared to be shorter which would have made it easier for the elderly to eat actually.
Taste wise, the wok hei was there even though not as intense as i thought it would be and not as sweet as i would like it to be (p.s. i didn't request for extra sauce). For a person new to char kway teow, this would be a good baseline to start with as their palate would not be too overwhelmed (i.e. overly sweet, too salty).
Furthermore, i believe they would enjoy the generosity of the cockles; i counted about twelve small ones, and the little chopped-up bits of crispy fried pork lard. Not the best char kway teow for me but sufficient to placate my craving.
