Han River Bridge (Day and Night) @ Da Nang in Vietnam

Da Nang is known as Vietnam's City of Bridges. Aside from the most famous Dragon Bridge and the impressive Tran Thi Ly Cable Bridge, I am going to talk about the simply named, Han River Bridge.

A cable-stayed bridge across Han River, construction started from 1997 and finally opened to traffic three years later. "446.2 meters in length and 10.5 meters in width", it had a unique feature that no other bridge in Vietnam has.

It's a swing bridge and above showed the gap that allowed the bridge to swivel 90 degrees late at night. The information online for this swing wasn't very conclusive; and it ranges from 11pm and 1am.

View of the waterfront and right ahead would be the 1.85 kilometer long Thuan Phuoc Bridge; said to be the "longest suspension bridge in Vietnam" that opened in 2009.

I was wondering the above structures, that appeared to be detached from the bridge were. After knowing it was a swing bridge, I am guess this would be where the ends of the bridge span would rest on when it completes the 90-degree rotation.

Since I was in Da Nang for quite a number of days, I am aware that the Han River Bridge would be transformed at night. Hence, since we had so much time, we decided to walk over on our last night in central vietnam.

Check out the gap again! In case you wonder if it's like the river right underneath, it didn't appear so as there seemed to be another level down from what I see.

Main reason why I mentioned that the bridge would be transformed at night; it was decked out with lights that changed colors as if it was dancing to music that humans can't hear.

The LED lights on the cables; the marvel of technology as this would enable different colors to spruce up the bridge and it could even showcase a rainbow show, which was the reason why it captivated my eyes when I saw from afar.

Honestly, the Han River Bridge looked better at night, and from a distance away, where you can better see and appreciate the light show, which seemed like an angel in the sky with spread out color-changing wings, and sometimes, in rainbow colors.

Cross over the bridge towards the beach and you should notice the above activity area for children (adults can participate too). Click here for the details!
