I uploaded a separate post on Dragon Bridge at Da Nang a few months ago that reflected my utmost captivation of its impressive design of a dragon bouncing in and out of the water!
On day six of my trip, I decided to walk on the other side of the bridge at 8.25 pm from Haian Riverfront Hotel Da Nang. With the cool breeze brushing relaxingly against me, I strolled half a kilometer towards the head of the dragon bridge.
People were already crowding around the dragon head, with even motor vehicles stopping right by the side of the pavement. Many were just waiting. Waiting patiently for the show that takes place at 9pm every night on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays!
I was lucky as the crowd thickened as we neared the auspicious timing of 9.00 pm, and I think I scored a pretty good spot that's near the dragon's head. One piece of advice - don't be right in front of the dragon head, and an explanation shall be shared shortly.
Two minutes to 9.00 pm.
Everyone's eyes were glued to the head.
Except for me.
9.01 pm - still nothing. Was there a glitch with the show or there's not supposed to be a show?! I did know what to expect since I did catch the show the day before when I was in my hotel room at Haian Riverfront Hotel Da Nang, but everything was miniscule!
Two minutes past two was when the dragon head started purging balls of fire from its metal cavity! Every spurt of fire was followed by screams from the surrounding spectators! Even from the distance I was at, I can still feel the heat; god knows how hot it was for those even nearer to the head.
At this moment, I thought the show had ended but seeing that everyone remained glued to the ground; well, "When in Rome, do as the Romans"!
Another few more rounds of fireballs were belched, sending columns of polluted smoke into the sky. I wonder how much does one show cost, and it can be expensive given this show was held three times a week?! I guess cheaper than fireworks bah!
The dragon started spraying gusts of water! I was so fortunate to have chosen this location as those staying put near the head were soaked wet! Some willingly did so though as it was rumoured that love would come to those who got wet!
For traditional Chinese like my mom, water means fortune and I strongly believe she would try to get her hands on some of the dragon's spit when we visit in May!
Show was said to be 15-minutes long but it concluded in less than 10 minutes! The locals know best right since they all started dispersing shortly after.
Floor looked like the aftermath of a sudden downpour! Honestly, I feel that every foreigner should come by and experience this dragon show, if it is their first time to the Dragon Bridge.
Where else in the world would you be able to experience a supposedly life-sized dragon that's a bridge and can breathe fire and spray water?!
