The Daily Scoop @ Sunset Way

When i first heard that there's a very nice ice cream parlour in Sunset Way, i was super excited since there is a direct bus from my workplace and it's merely a few stops away.

However, i wasn't impressed after having a few scoops of ice cream, which were mostly gelato; a variant i am not really keen. An ice cream should be creamy, rich, sweet, milky and fattening!!

That was a year ago. It was not till three days ago i realised, with horror, that i had gone to the wrong ice cream cafe!!!

Sunset Way is more than just the housing blocks filled with good food and I blindly stepped into Gelato Art!!! So paiseh!!! I have mistakenly told many friends that the supposedly famous ice cream parlour was seriously "no big deal"!

Well, better late than never, the gang of four finally got the destination right this time after driving beyond the housing blocks and underneath a disused overhead railway track.

Following an argument watched with amusement by the staff, we finally agreed on one serving of waffle, another serving of brownie and a total of five scoops of ice cream. I was seriously famished after having only coffee for lunch!

The ice-cold bowl above had a large scoop each of cherry brandy and mango magic.

I thought the alcoholic ice cream was not as exciting as my favourite rum and raisin and the amount of brandy was quite negligible.

Mango magic was another story altogether. It was one of the best mango ice cream i ever have with bits of mango (and some leaves thingy) that affirmed its natural freshness!

Having a freshly made hot waffle in the midst of cold weather conjures an image of satisfying relaxation. Add a few scoops of ice cream and you know you have THAT perfect remedy to de-stress.

The pur-pearl rice ice cream was nice although the equivalent pulut hitam ice cream from Island Cremery was more memorable in terms of taste.

Minty mint was surprisingly white in color; i sorta expected it to be greenish. Refreshingly cool with blocks of solid chocolate, i have never had another minty ice cream as delicious as this one!

Brownie topped with a scoop of durian-durian seemed like a weird and may be even wrong combination but the gang of four was damn impressed with this item!

The soft brownie was fluffy without being overly filled with ingredients like nuts! It was not too sweet and the chocolatey taste was just right.

On durian ice cream, i am forever stuck in limbo.

The Daily Scoops' version was definitely better than the one i had in Udders (which had supposedly the best durian ice cream).

However, i was complaining that since it tasted exactly like the real durian, i might as well get my fill on the 'real' thorny durians in Geylang.

Just to give you an example on the overall review, Ms Tan and Mr Kon would love to stay around that area and have their fill of ice cream in The Daily Scoop on a daily basis! That really said how much they enjoy the ice cream there.

A New Aim In Life

A New Aim
In Life

It may not be such a bad thing that i decided not to remove a particular application from my iPhone after reaching a new high of 10,000 coins three months ago.

Yes peeps; the coin dozer is back with more bite! No thanks to bloody alex who made this announcement that was received with mixed feelings for me!!

Will i spend my precious time (again) on challenging myself? Six stars for the new prize, sunglasses? Shall i forgo my sleep to see if I can go beyond level 100?

In the past three hours, I have managed to gain more than 30 levels! The journey will only be more time consuming and treacherous as i slowly level up.

Wish me good luck as i found another new aim in life; one that's seriously pathetic.... Wahahahaha.

I need an overseas trip!
=_=

Cream of Mushroom (Soup) @ Buckaroo BBQ & Grill

Cream of Mushroom
@ Buckaroo

The cooling temperature at the end of the calendar year has recently increased Alex's craving for soupy stuff, with his favourite coming from Buckaroo; the ang moh style coffee shop!

A typical soup in a bread bowl; this is so humongous (and so freaky filling), i strongly recommend that two persons share one. We usually order just one bowl of soup plus a serving of onion rings... and that's for dinner.

Besides the "worth it" factor at S$8.80, picky Alex loves this for its home-made thick and creamy soup that has at least 4 different types of mushroom.

In addition, i personally thought that he secretly adores the holistic style of tearing the bread from the bowl it comes from and dipping it into the hot creamy soup!

Note: drink the soup as soon as possible!!! The bowl is obviously edible and the bread bun tends to absorb the soup as time goes by. By all means wait if you prefer to have mushy mashy bread.

For me, i am afraid i prefer the mushroom soup from Soup Spoon; the perfect soup that has tons of bite size mushroom bits.

And i am not really a carbohydrate person like pig mother.

Cobra Show @ Thailand

It's not difficult to know how disappointed i was with the floating market in Thailand and i am thankful there's a saving grace in the form of a cobra show (in English) that was part of the half day tour.

For some of you who are unaware, the moving thing i am most afraid of is the scaly looking reptile; the snake. Mild ophidiophobia, i have been trying to challenge (and hopefully reduce) my fear and one good option is to attend a close range snake show.

It's mentally thrilling when my eyes saw the less-than-a-meter wall separating the snakes from the audience. Getting bitten could be a better way to conquer the fear than anything else. And this psychotic thought was indeed enthralling.

After waiting 10 minutes for the spectators to slowly stream in, the show finally started with an ah pek battling the most famous snake in Asia; the venomous cobra.

Antagonising the cobra in every possible way that included slapping, the cobra was eventually subdued. Albeit in a very strange way! It was as if the upper body was hardened up like a rod and the cobra handler was able to hold it vertically with one hand.

That looked frightening amazing for ophidiophobics like me!

Next up was the extraction of venom using a glass with a plastic film covering the top.

As you can see, the ah pek gamely stepped out of his fighting arena and showed us the venom (with the snake) in really close proximity.

This was how close we were. Trigger happy spectators took the opportunity to "accidentally" touch the cobra and take close up pictures, which was allowed by the organiser without paying extra.

Some of you might remember a fighting story between the weasel and the cobra. This story was brought to the real life. As the story goes, the brave weasel won!

This was another human-snake battle but it was scary!!!!! The snake handler, a young chap, was swinging the snake out of his reach and then attempted to rein it in again!

Every time he swung it, my heart missed a beat. I was so afraid it will fly onto my lap!!! I trusted his expertise, despite the age and the fresh snake bites on his arm. Okay, i trusted a bit lesser after seeing the blood flowing down his arms and fingers.

The show got more creepy and horrifying (for me) when another handler pulled out a long python and started swinging it around.

*sobz* it got so bad; those seated in the front row started retreating to the seats behind me!

Last event was a battle with three snakes!!!! More swinging?!?!! The thought of that was enough for me to have goosebumps appearing on my arms!!

Thankfully, it was milder although with only a person on the battlefield, the aggressive pythons snakes took the opportunity to escape in different directions by climbing up the less-than-a-meter barrier!!

It was another heart stopping moment!!!

The show finally concluded with the lone handler catching the third and last snake by biting its neck!

*a BIG phew*

By the way, do you know that a male snake has two penises!?!?!?!?

=====

Location
No idea. I remember a very elaborate Thai temple besides the snake farm and it should not be too far away from the Damnoensaduak Floating Market.

Price
200-250 Thai baht per pax for entry to the snake farm (with a lonely croc) and that includes the cobra show.
