Xiao Hei (小黑) Fresh Durians in T.P.T Fruit Juice Fruit Store @ Yishun Block 925 (next to Northpoint City) [Singapore]

During the durian season, you can see a lot of pop up stalls displaying the well-liked species of the king of fruits. Only issue is that there are so many to choose from; and given our age, trying is not an option given the spike in calories, and the durians don't usually come cheap. 

By chance, I was passing by a fruit store after a meal at a coffee shop next to Northpoint City and our dear Alex suddenly had the craving for durians, and was willing to treat us! Now, I don't reject a good deal, especially from stingy assholes. 

I patronized this fruit store a few times in the past (remember purely because I still had the PayNow transactions) and did notice the durians on display whenever they are in season. However, I couldn't find any online reviews for this Xiao Hei (小黑) Fresh Durians. Therefore, all thanks to Alex for allowing this opportunity! 

The durians must be good as this would be my second visit and this time round, I was prepared to give an official review in this blog. With me is my mom whose taste buds for durians have elevated over the years, with a special liking for expensive species like black gold, cat mountain king and golden phoenix. 

Compared to last week, the price for black gold (enhanced version of cat mountain king) had dropped from S$22 to S$18 a kilogram. The owner, Xiao Hei I presume, recommended a 4-kilogram fruit but willingly discarded it as, with one look, he determined this wouldn't be the bittersweet durians we prefer.

Eventually, we settled for two smaller ones; at 3.45 kilograms, the damage was S$61.30 but the friendly owner told us to just PayNow S$60. Now, this kind of things make customers happy and if it's returning customers he is looking for, this kind gesture would be one of the factors.

Most important factor would still be the quality of durians! 

One full box, that would have been sacrilegious if we were to close the lid and mash up the durians! Xiao Hei noted our comment in our first visit that he should set up some tables and there's one for us to use! p.s. it's actually his resting table. 

Meat wise, they were pulpy with seeds that were generally quite flat. Taste was unforgettably delicious; to the extent we returned after less than a week! They met my mom's requirements for bitter-sweetness and having them so meaty was just downright satisfying! 

19 seeds in total. Alex asked to go back again on Tuesday as prices are expected to drop further next week according to the boss! How to lose weight like that?!
