There was supposed to be a Michelin noodle shop I wanted to try during my Bangkok visit but its opening hour was at 2pm; which means I would have to endure a wait of about 1.5 hours.
Google Maps to the rescue and we found another place just about 400 meters away, which also offered noodle and the rating was almost comparable to the Michelin one; 4.3 versus 4.2 although the number of reviewers was almost five times more for the more famous eatery.
Shop wasn't the mobile cart, with an open kitchen outside, and tables and chairs dotting the surrounding, including some indoors. As it wasn't too hot, we were happy to be seated right next to the street.
Had this bottle of coke that didn't seem to be from Coca Cola or Pepsi; nevertheless, still thirst quenching and it didn't taste ultra sweet like the cola we were accustomed to.
A video of the frying process in the shop; the thing about recording video and taking photo is that it could never replicate the tempting aroma!
Our two plates of noodle; green was noodle with pork and priced at 50 baht, whereas brown was noodle, chicken with seafood and cost higher at 70 baht. Without further ado, let's dig in!
The cuttlefish in the seafood had a satisfying, crunchy bite and the noodle was packed with ingredients! Sadly, the noodle was quite the letdown. Despite having the aroma of the all-important wok hei, the taste was bland; not insufficient salt. Chicken was tough and shouldn't have been included.
Pork was significantly better than the chicken, although the blandness of the noodle continued. Seeing the container of chilli sauce on the side, we added a few scoops to the noodle, and immediately, the flavor was elevated. Strangely, it tasted more tomato than chilli.
Honestly, the noodles fell short of our expectations.
Maybe I should try the Michelin one next round for comparison.
