Char Siew Rice - Hwa Kee Barbeque Pork Noodle (華記云吞面) @ East Coast Lagoon Hawker Centre [Singapore]

I thought i have seen it all, eaten it all when it comes to char siew rice in Singapore but there are still pockets of surprises in this little red dot we reside in.

One was encountered in my recent visit to the popular East Coast Lagoon food centre and despite the name that would have encouraged many to order noodles, i went with the rice instead. Rationality can be thrown aside when it comes to that insatiable need to satisfy the craving!

Anyway, two things would catch your immediate attention when the lady served you the char siew rice; one, the intense red sauce that makes you wonder if there were too much coloring used and two, the meat was sliced extremely thin and you would be thinking the worst of its taste.

Heck no! I do agree the sauce was on the sweet side but it wouldn't take you more than a second to realise this was different from other char siew sauce; there was a hint of cuttlefish flavour which added to the entire palatability! The only compromise, as far as i was concerned, was that the char siew was made of lean meat.

Cavin loves his char siew with a thick layer of glistening fats.
