Thai Temple Festival [Ended] - Retro Vibe & Tons of Food @ Terminal 21 Asok [Bangkok, Thailand]

A visit to Bangkok is never complete until i make a trip to Terminal 21 Asok and i guess i was lucky to chance upon a temple festival event in the shopping mall when i visited in early November

Spread over two floors (ground and basement), there was a retro vibe in the atmosphere; similar to the pasar malams in Singapore around 30 years ago when i was still a kid. The kind of old school night market i would enjoy although it would likely be less popular with adults ten years younger.

Back then, electronic games were expensive and afforded only by kids who hailed from rich families. Poor kids like i would already be extremely happy if my dad would pay for me to shoot targets using an air gun!

Metal enamelware plates, cups and tiffin carriers; these were so common in the 80s! Now, everyone would just go for melamine or in my case, corelle brand dinnerware for its important chip-and-break resistant attributes.

Retro games and snacks; you can find some familiarity with what we have in Singapore!

Masks that would be laughed at if you dare to wear them for any Halloween parties! However, back then, it was a major source of entertainment for kids who wanted to pretend to be a super hero or a villain.

There was even a monkey show! When i arrived, the show appeared to have ended but the primates continue to stay around for mingling with the public.

The lonesome lady among the two male monkeys. Dressed in a pretty dress, i didn't expect much until she turned around to face us.

Deep blushes, green eye shadows and red lip sticks; the appearance did shock us a bit and we couldn't help but burst out laughing! Whatever the case, she is still a cutie!

One similarity with temple festival and pasar malam is the sheer amount of food! What i am showing above is hardly 5% of what's available and it's a pity i had my heart set for my full meal at Pier 21 food court and the tender grilled pork from the takeaway counter on the basement.

Hey, i remember seeing this at Thalang Road on Phuket Island; now i know it's a rice cracker. Thought it's some kind of biscuit.

Regretted not trying the charcoal grilled squid as the biggest only cost 60 baht! My two travel mates don't adopt the live to eat philosophy and it's hard to get them to share with me!

p.s. do not that the temple festival at Terminal 21 Asok has ended on 12 November 2018.

The monkeys dressed up and in make up are absolutely disgusting.... terrible animal cruelty and as a blogger promoting it is unethical. Animals shouldn't be used for entertainment. Sick #animalcrueltythailand
