Cold Cheng Tng from Liang Liang Garden Desserts @Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre [Singapore] #tiongbahruhawkercentre

Back when Singapore was on the verge of exiting from the intense heat of Covid-19 pandemic at the end of 2020, my family and I visited Tiong Bahru market, where I had cheng tng from Tian Tian Yuan Dessert House.

There's another dessert stall within the same hawker centre that was my initial choice but thanks to a customer who wasn't wearing mask and coughing profusely, I had to give Liang Liang Garden Desserts a miss.

Not this time, although it took me five years to return! Unlike Tian Tian Yuan, the shaved ice at Liang Liang Garden Desserts was piled up a lot higher, which was usually the norm for most local dessert stalls in Singapore.

Maybe due to the intense competition between the two within Tiong Bahru Market Hawker Centre, both featured a unique combination of ingredients you don't commonly find in cheng tng elsewhere!

There were red beans, barley, pieces of Chinese chestnuts; in addition to red date, dried longan, dried winter melon strips, and even a peach gum-like ingredient! Why no peng da hai!?

Honestly, the broth was on the too-sweet spectrum and could do with a taller mountain of shaved ice. Other than that, the flavor was good enough and I would term this as satisfying, albeit not your typical cheng tng, more a cheng tng specially for Tiong Bahru.
