Ah Tuck Wanton Noodle (阿德云吞面) @ Restoran Yu Ee 5 in Johor Bahru [Malaysia]

A famous blogger had recently mentioned that wanton mee is better in Malaysia and that sparked a craving when I decided to pop in to Johor Bahru on the second day of 2026!

My favorite century (home-based) wanton mee would only be open at night and a search on Google Maps brought me to Restoran Yu Ee 5 (near Holiday Villa Hotel), where reviews mentioned a wanton mee that doesn't even have a spot on the app.

Hunger beckoned and I ordered the medium portion at RM 10.00. There were options for black, while, and soup with basic noodle selection of mee kia or mee pok. I went with white given that black is usually too sweet, and mee kia! Personally, mee pok is for fishball noodles!

Wanton Noodle (Mee Kia) White Sauce - topped with the abhorrent lean char siew and crispy pork lard, the mee kia was cooked al-dente, soft yet retaining a rubber band texture, and soaked in a light, savory sauce, that was so delicious; I regretted not going for large!

Even though lean char siew was a fail (edible still), credit must be given to the bowl of wanton / dumplings in soup. Nothing to scream about the soup.

The dumplings were the highlights; generously packed with meat, they were tasty instead of being tasteless blops of stuff that lent its namesake to the dish in many other wanton mee stalls!

Should century wanton mee be closed, this Ah Tuck Wanton Noodle would be my next choice when it comes to wanton mee in Johor Bahru (JB). p.s. I am quite the regular to JB despite the weakening of Singapore dollar against Malaysian ringgit.
