Wang's Champion Rice Cakes (王家庄狀元粿) @ Tainan in Taiwan

The ancient city of Tainan in Taiwan was said to be the country's indisputable food capital and while roaming around the streets, we chanced upon the Wang's Champion Rice Cakes store; a traditional Taiwanese snack that I enjoyed.

Affable boss claimed that his champion cake (known as scholar cake for some) was the best; and that obviously made me very excited, with much anticipation while waiting for the cakes to be steamed and get ready to be ingested!

Minimally a box of six was required for purchase and it came with just the basic peanut and sesame fillings! That's a raw testament of confidence since businesses would likely deviate into multiple flavours to gain more sales but not here!

Served piping hot, I was surprised with the high moisture for the champion cakes, which made the texture QQ and in stark contrast with the drier, stickier ones from Dodomi Champion Cake @ Ruifeng Night Market that we tried two days before.

Both peanut and sesame fillings were sweet and while Alex preferred the not as sweet ones at Dodomi; my heart was more with Wang's Champion Rice Cakes as sweetness can result in higher happiness! And although sweeter, they were not cloying!

Empty within minutes! p.s. I didn't notice the advice at the stall that recommended eating only 10 minutes after as the filling could be too hot, and might be too "wet". Oh well, next time then!
