Noviss Studio Cafe @ Georgetown in Penang [Malaysia]

There was so much walking at hot and sunny Penang that it's hard to resist not stepping into an air-conditioned cafe when it was right in front of us! 

Converted from a shophouse with a clothing and accessories shop on the second floor, the interior design of Noviss Studio Cafe wasn't fanciful, and honestly, pretty forgettable at first glance.

Step closer and look deeper, however, and you would spot a pretty tree sprouting from a disused sink and retro light switchers reminding me of my childhood days in a kampong near Singapore Zoo! 

While it's granted that I would go with some drinks, the glass fridge with an array of cakes caught my attention! Alex isn't much of a cake lover which means I have to select between choices like maple carrot cake, walnut hazelnut cake and strawberry shortcake.

Strawberry Shortcake - guess this would be lighter to entice Alex to share the calories! With three layers of fluffy sponge cake connected with a spread of strawberry jam and butter cream, this was not bad tasting although I prefer the Japanese kind which was creamier and less sweet.

Mint Verbena Tea - Am I the only one who would always go for mint tea, thinking it would be better for digestion? Anyway, the taste was strong and I noticed the generous amount of tea in the tea bag.

Summer Land Fruit Tea - said to be a mix of lychee and dragon pearl jasmine, the fruit component came in from the pieces of cut fruits on ice.  Tea was light, aromatic with punches of sweetness from the fruits. Definitely more interesting than mine.

Quite a nice place to chill out on a hot and sunny day, and you happen to be at the area where most of the famous Penang wall murals were located. 

If you are lucky, you might even encounter a furry visitor.

Apparently a regular, the staff would open the door and invite the adorable feline for some play session! So cute right?! This scene wouldn't be seen in Singapore given the aversion of having animals in an indoor food and dining establishment, unless governmental approval was granted.
