Black Fried Carrot Cake 炒菜头粿 (黒) @ Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Hawker Centre

I surprise myself sometimes.

Even after facing so many rounds of bitter disappointment, i simply could not resist ordering a serving of black carrot cake when i caught sight of a longer than usual queue in front of this stall located at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 hawker centre.

Visual wise, it did manage to whet my appetite with a generous spread of eggs over diced up chai tow kway that had undergone a nice douse of dark sweet sauce! 

I would have preferred a more dicey cut and i would have much enjoyed a sweeter rendition. Having said that, this version, with its stickier texture and a stronger wok hei, was the best out of the mediocre lot i had in recent month.
