Chomp Chomp Food Centre [When's the Best Time to Go] & Its Humongous Sugar Cane Juice @ Serangoon Gardens

This post is long overdue as i have known the insanely famous (at least among Singaporeans) hawker center for a long time! In fact, i even worked permanently in a pet shop right opposite Chomp Chomp before its major renovation.

My entry today is not going to talk about food [gonna leave that for another day].

Given the crazy traffic condition in Serangoon Gardens that is horrendous enough for the government to stop issuing license for any food establishment and the huge number of hungry patrons that descended onto this considerably small hawker centre during dinner time, i would like to share with you Cavin's simple strategy to beat the crowd.

And traffic.

Firstly, always visit right before dinnertime, maybe around 5.15pm. The above picture is the proof of my suggestion. Of course, weekdays are recommended although in the case of Mondays, you will likely see more unopened stalls.

I figure it might be a bit too warm to go during that 5.15pm timing but i assure you it would not be any much cooler during the peak periods after 6pm! Besides the polluted smoke from stalls like BBQ wings, you would have a lot of people staring at you while you dig into your food.

Not because they are hungry; they are merely waiting (and praying) for you to finish your food as soon as possible so that they can take over your seats!

Secondly, go for the seating area right at the back!

There are three main sections to Chomp Chomp; the front which is always crowded, the middle that is almost permanently shrouded with a blanket of smoke during dinnertime and the back without the problems faced by the two other sections.

Get yourself a gigantic mug of the sugar cane juice at only S$3 once you secure a seat! It used to be S$2.50 for a smaller yet already huge mug but the competition is so intense that i guess it is a matter of time before the drink stalls 'upsize' again.

Oops, i almost forgot about traffic.

Public transportation would be the best choice [bus number 73, 136, 315 and 317]. Should you be unable to get off the comfort of driving your car, try to arrive earlier and go straight for the carpark right in front of Cold Storage [red star as above].

Additional carpark lots are available at myVillage @ Serangoon Gardens.
