Departing from Penang International Airport

Worried about the potential jam from Georgetown to
Penang International Airport, we decided to leave our hotel earlier and reach the airport 3 hours before departure!

Upon clearing immigration, the first thing on my mind was to check out the airport, and hoping there would be enough shopping options in this Malaysia's third largest airport to tide us for the next few hours!

Vending machine selling Penang medallion which looked like commemorative coins; not of my interest as age has rendered me only interested in piggy banks, and maybe absolut vodka.

I have always wondered; how duty free are those duty free shops? For chocolates and candies etc, I thought the pricing was usually exorbitant and who in the right mind would fork out their money; save for those who are filthy rich.

Digital gadget store that would not have looked out of place in Sungei Wang, Sim Lim Square. Given how important mobile phones and laptops are in the modern era, I guess they could still make profit.

Jewelry store; of a brand I am ignorantly unaware of.

Tropical Beauty - I thought it was a perfume store but a closer look revealed it offered massage, pedicure, manicure services! A 60-minute foot massage cost RM138; cheap or expensive?

One shop that would always draw crowds; one that sells local souvenirs and snacks!

The variety was pretty wide and the prices, while higher than outside, were not too crazy; like a box of tambun biscuits priced at RM11.70; less than S$4. The bad thing is that there weren't any sampling, which was the only way to get me to buy in the airport.

A souvenir I love getting from the airports would be fridge magnets or keychains as you tend to get more unique designs, with the only disadvantage being the price, which was fair given the uniqueness.

Reaching the far end of Penang International Airport.
Seriously nothing much for us to be impressed.

With more than two hours to go, the only reasonable activity for us was to find a dining establishment to rest and relax, and maybe watch a few downloaded movies on my phone.

Old Town White Coffee Express, and the menu for your reference.

Interestingly, we went with a Western dining establishment instead of a Malaysian one! Yes, Starbucks it shall be. To be fair, this was more Alex's decision instead of mine, although the muffin was my order, and it was seriously not bad.

There's only so long we can spend our time eating a muffin and drinking a cup of ice blended drink; eventually we joined the rest of the bored passengers at the gates to wait for the arrival of our Singapore Airlines plane.

- The End -
