Halal Tze-Char Dishes from SMA (Super Makan Asia) @ Northpoint City Shopping Centre in Yishun [Singapore] #sma #supermakanasia #northpointsg

With the high concentration of food and beverage outlets at the expanded Northpoint City shopping centre in Yishun, my family is literally spoilt with choices!

Hence, when SMA (short for Super Makan Asia) opened for business, its concept of local Halal tze char didn't quite appeal to us and it didn't help that the place wasn't fully packed on the many occasions i walked past.

It was Alex who went to have dinner there with his table tennis friends and he came back with, surprisingly, pretty good reviews! I wouldn't give up the opportunity to review an eatery so close to home and asked my parents along for dinner a few days ago!

Another reason for my visit; they have this irresistible promotion where you can top up your main for extra side (choose from 2-pc drumlettes, stir-fried bean sprouts, fried tofu, fried enoki mushrooms and mango salad) and one drink (selected).

Showing the drinks first; no comment on the kopi and teh that my parents ordered since i didn't take a sip. My drink, teh o limau iced, was refreshing and thirst quenching! Let's continue with the sides, the mains and lastly, the extra.

Mango Salad (Side) - freshly grated, this was zesty with a touch of sour-sweetness. A good appetiser to prep the tummy before we try the others!

Fried Tofu (Side) - served piping hot from the frying pan and drenched with thai style sweet chilli sauce, i can't hold back my love for fried tofu after my bandung trip and these were exceptional addictive with the slices of onion!

Fried Enoki Mushroom (Side) - nice, thin batter and style was same as the fried tofu; guess you can't really go wrong with sweet thai chilli sauce and slices of raw onion.

Sliced Fish Soup (Main) - mom's order as i wouldn't likely order this for sharing. Nevertheless, she's disciplined with her carbo-restricted diet and rejected the rice / noodles that came with it. Soup was tasty although i do find the amount of fish meat pathetic.

Seafood Horfun (Main) - dry kind of horfun that contained prawns and fish; the wok-hei was good in this dish and although nice, it tasted a bit bland. p.s. taste was better in my first visit with Alex. For added shiokness, squeeze the lime and mix in the sambal chilli!

Pineapple Fried Rice (Main) - to be honest, this was a great plate of fried rice but for pineapple fried rice, it didn't live up to its name. There's hardly any pineapple taste to it and personally; i like my pineapple fried rice to have a generous serving of chicken floss (usually the standard) as a flavour enhancer.

Egg with Prawn (Extra) - i am particular with my fried egg and there had been misses before. This one totally met my criteria; oily, fluffy and absolutely delicious! Quite expensive though.

=====

We were satisfied and for the price paid for three persons, we thought it was pretty reasonable for a shopping centre! Needless to say, it would be one eatery we would return to in the near future!
