It was written somewhere that patrons who tried Marutama had sworn off any other ramen, including my personal favourite Ippudo Ramen!
Never been a favourite of ramen a few years ago, Marutama is now the eighth ramen restaurant i tried within a year!!
We shall touch on food first. Other stuff will be discussed under additional information at the end of this post!
Kabuni (Pork Belly)
The best stewed pork belly would be so soft; minimal effort is given to the bite and swallow actions.
For Marutama's kabuni, it's been a long time since i had such tough piggy belly.
Gyoza (Dumplings)
Differing from the usually fried gyozas, the boiled dumplings were refreshing and comparable to the 红油炒手 in Crystal Jade (without the spiciness that is).
The vinegar can be really overbearing if you are tasked to finish all (or most) of them, in addition to the big bowl of ramen!
Aka Ramen
A mixture of seven kinds of ground nuts and chicken soup made up the base for this ramen i had.
Frankly, it wasn't nutty as i expected but the slice of lemon, once squeezed, gave a really zesty taste to the mildly spicy soup.
The orange colored balls were actually minced chicken! My tongue thought they were fish based, like salmon! *so paiseh*
One common ingredient in Marutama stood out amongst the many ramen restaurants (eight okay!) i had; the thin size noodles (like mee kia).
They were perfect with the right bite, right texture, right size and right taste!
Marutama Ramen
The signature dish my mom had; i found the broth to be the thickest and tastiest in Marutama.
Unfortunately, i think the chicken based soup was not as preferred as the pork based ramen my mom had in Ippudo.
Nama Karashi Ramen
(no pictures! how could i forget to take pictures?!?!?!)
My cousin, Meixin (who is a regular patron and member of Ajisen Ramen), ordered this and from what i deduced, she liked this spicy ramen but would prefer the Tom Yam ramen from Ajisen.
Hallo! Tom Yam ramen is not the traditional ramen in Japan okay!!! Hahaha. Okay lah, we live in a too globalised world where change is inevitable.
Ajitsuke Tamago
Having tried this at a few ramen restaurants, I personally find this half boiled seasoned egg thingy too over-rated.
At between S$1 and S$2 each, i would throw my money with Tea Leaves eggs, which are much more flavourful!
My cousin, trying it for the first time, loves it!
*shrugs*

Additional Information
The whole restaurant was quite dark with minimal lighting (which is bad for photo taking)!
Decoration was simplistic with a Japanese touch (unlike vibrant Nantsuttei)!!
Another thing i like (besides the noodles) in Marutama was the pot of water on each table! There's no longer any need to request for refills! Unless you emptied the whole pot!
I didn't manage to try the Char Shu (not available on my Aka ramen)!! By the time i wanted to try, both cousin and mom had gobbled their share!!!
