Mirror Maze @ Jewel Changi Airport [Singapore] #jewelchangiairport

Given the proximity of Mirror Maze and Hedge Maze from the ticketing counter for Canopy Park @ Jewel Changi Airport, it's only a matter of deciding which maze you want to undertake first. For me, curiosity won.

From the outside, the building housing the maze was small and simple; and it was intriguing for a person who has never physically explore a maze said to be filled with mirrors. They look interesting in the movies though.

Standard rules and regulations; one thing to note, no re-entry. It's a one way in, another way out attraction; unlike the general canopy park which allows re-entry multiple times on the same day.

All visitors entering the mirror maze would be required to go through the safety briefing on the screen. Please be assured that it came in Chinese, English or Bahasa Indonesia. From this, you can roughly gauge the composition of tourists coming into Singapore, before COVID-19 hit the global travel sector.

This foam noodle is like the most important thing in the mirror maze; please protect it earnestly as your escape from the maze heavily depends on it. If adventure is what you are seeking, by all means return it to the service crew!

The entry to the maze, and unveiling an entirely different world inside.

Two Alex in front of us! To be honest, it was disorienting and I can imagine the chaos should I be visiting the mirror maze as a teenager; it would likely be chasing my friends around the maze and crashing numerous times into the mirror panels!

Top allowed natural light, partially shaded by a canopy of greenery whereas the bottom has strips of changing LED lights; which can confuse as you can't use the lights as a marker for directions.

Taking selfies!

Usefulness of the foam noodles; to hit the path (lightly) in front of you to ensure it's a clear path. Trust me, seeing might be believing but in the mirror maze, the supposedly clear path in front of you might just be a mirror!

Give you one visual example - there's only one foam noodle in the above photo; the rest were mere reflections! Hence, don't rush through the maze; take your time to navigate your way out of it.

Other pictures for your viewing pleasure!
p.s. waste not the pictures.

Exit is found! Frankly, it didn't take us long to find the exit as the place was in reality not large in the first place; the reflections did make it appear a lot bigger though. All in one, we took less than 15 minutes to find the exit but chose to linger a bit more, thinking there's more to the maze.

Nothing much, honestly and for the normal pricing of S$15 per adult, I thought it's steep for such a short game-play. Anyway, beyond the curtains was a room with shimmering star-like LED lights above us; a contrast to what was before the curtains.

Return your trusty foam noodle.

And given the current pandemic, it's always good to sanitize your hands!

Hoodadak Korean Dining Room @ Fusionopolis [Singapore]

Visiting Fusionopolis on a weekday afternoon for lunch often means long queue at most eateries, and it didn't escape my friends' eyes that Hoodadak Korean Dining Room always commands a queue!

We had been wanting to pay a visit for quite some time and the opportunity came when someone decided to give us a treat! Anyway, I don't now what Hoodadak means in Korean; is it related to chicken given the use of chicken image even for their logo?

Too many items on the menu and I guess narrowing my choice to the set menu would be an easier way to decide. Honestly, when it comes to meat, I prefer beef and pork over chicken, and it appeared that the jeayuk set would be a better option for me!

Cutleries wrapped in a plastic bag; nice touch given the current pandemic! As customary for authentic Korean restaurants, you would find a bottle of cold water for you to help yourself with; to think other eateries have the audacity to charge.

Trays of Korean side dishes! These would be the kind of things that my family totally enjoyed when it comes to Korean cuisine and there were times where the side dishes were the main highlights!

For a moment, I was wondering why the mom doesn't allow customers to take the food. After mere seconds, I got it; MOM stands for the ministry of manpower and self-service for food is disallowed under MOM's COVID-19 guidelines.

Side dishes
- four types in total; sweet seaweed sprinkled with what looked like sugar, braised egg that was a favourite among my peers, okay tasting spinach, and the spicy, sourish kimchi (not my cup of tea). Refillable; just request from the service staff.

Jeayuk Set - Arrival of my set meal; I lamented a long time ago that I disliked the seaweed soup served in Korean restaurants. Now that I am older, I appreciate the soup a lot better as it gave the impression it's healthier for the ageing body!

My meat; tasted like the typical spicy pork bulgogi I was accustomed to and while the flavour was good and portion was generous, the cheapo me couldn't help comparing with the much cheaper version (half the price) from Hwang's Restaurant in University Town, NUS.

Saving grace; Hoodadak gave a lot of onions which I like and I couldn't deny the fact that Hwang's Restaurant has recently reduced their side dishes to just one; kimchi, and I don't think it's refillable since there's no indication of that.

Seafood Pajeon - always good to have a pancake for sharing! With prawns and squids, was sadly quite doughy  despite the light crisp on the outside. Know what I was thinking of as I bit into pancake? I miss the seafood pancake from Pa Bul Lo Korean Charcoal BBQ @ Serangoon Garden.

=====

I would be of mixed feeling if you ask whether I would return for a meal at Hoodadak Korean Dining Room. On one hand, prices weren't that easy on the pocket and taste wise, it didn't make me wide-eyed, but on the other hand; with so many other options to choose from (including fried chicken), maybe I should go again to check out their other dishes.

Foggy Bowls in Canopy Park @ Jewel Changi Airport [Singapore] #jewelchangiairport

Foggy Bowls, housed within the Canopy Park at Jewel Changi Airport, has an intriguing name as it makes one wonder if the name was borrowed from fairy tales or Enid Blyton books.

Before checking out, here's a bunch of dos and dont's, and they are also available in Chinese and Bahasa Indonesia! Nowadays, it's quite the norm for big shopping malls to install touch-screen monitors and many are intuitive enough to even show details of the route leading to the destination you have in mind.

Here's foggy bowls; the small, artificial lawn might appear unexciting. Put it simply; the four concave indentations on the lawn might conjure more excitement as it would likely make any unobservant guests trip and fall. I digress;  do give it a few more minutes for the interesting stuff to start its operation.

The puffs of fog emitting from the middle of each "bowl"!

First look and any unsuspecting victim might thought of a mechanical malfunction and quickly jump out of way in case the "smoke" has the ability to burn one's skin or result in acute inhalant intoxication!

Not for us though; we took the opportunity to confirm if our butt would get any cooler or it's big enough to stop the fog from coming out! That's quite similar to what kids love to do with the suction drains in swimming pools.

Whole place would eventually turn into a mystical place with fog surrounding the trees and us. When there are not many people at foggy bowls, like in our case; the environment felt extremely relaxing and comfortable.

Interestingly, the fog would hover a while before dispersing; an excuse for our dear Alex to showcase his signature pose. Anyway, the canopy park ticket allows re-entry for the entire day and if you have ample time, do drop by at night as fog makes the place even more magical without the sunlight!
