I can only say i am glad that i don't follow the regime of going vegetarian on the first and fifteenth day of each lunar month as this would mean i will not be able to try the food at Jing Ji Fishball Noodle last Sunday!
Needless to say, its queue (one of the longest in Sembawang Hills Food Centre) draws me and since i am seldom in that area; i am secretly hoping that the wait would be worth it.
It was only about 35 minutes that i finally got my food; i was contemplating between its namesake fishball noodle and the unique teochew meatball noodle. It was a hard decision to make and i eventually went with the boring fishball noodle but yet two teochew meat balls thrown in.
Honestly, i wasn't impressed with the weak, bland broth. The slices of fishcake and even the singular prawn swimming in it failed to change my opinion even though the fisballs, with its QQ texture, were better than expected.
Thankfully, other items saved the day; like the teochew meat balls which were large and delicious with moist, flavourful insides! They were so good; i would consider buying the raw ones home for steamboat! p.s. not sure if that's possible....
Now, i accord higher importance for the noodles and this bowl, sprinkled with pieces of pork lard, didn't disappoint me! Mixed in with chilli and tomato sauces, it had the traditional taste that i totally dig for and i was happily slurping in the noodle till the very last strand!
Next time, i would make sure to go for the teochew meatball noodle.
