Mille Crepe Cake & Authentic Black Forest Cake @ Classic Cakes (Sunset Way)

In usual circumstances, cake shops are not my forte and it's more likely i would give it a customary glance (out of respect that it is still considered a type of food) and continue my way.

Classic Cakes, however, attracted my attention immediately; three glowing reviews plastered on the glass window, written by Ms Tan Hsueh Yun, an established (and my favourite) food columnist with the national newspaper!

Given Hsueh Yun's reputation and placing in my heart, i had to give Classic Cakes a chance and try its classical offerings!

Authentic Black Forest Cake
Authenticity is a double edged sword as it might mean being prepared in the traditional way resulting in an original taste that remains unchanged since its inception, but human tastes do evolve and they do change with time.

It's not hard to imply from the above that i am not super impressed with the classical looking black forest cake. The dough can be softer and littered with a bit more moisture although i have to admit that i love the juicy cherries buried within.

Mille Crepe Cake
Strongly recommended by Hsueh Yun, it was essentially a pile of twenty crepes sticked together by some sort of vanilla cream and adorned with a thin layer of burnt caramel.

Commanding a higher price due to its rarity amongst the many bakeries in Singapore and the labourious making process, it is a cake damn worth the travel to inaccessible Sunset Way for a single bite.

Unlike most cakes, it didn't give an overwhelming sensation after a while and the overall package was just perfect; not too sweet yet with a delicious vanilla fragrance that unleashed as you slowly bit down the compact stack of twenty crepes.
