A Day Worth It.

Did quite a number of desperately to be done tasks today!!

I finally sent two resumes! Not worth mentioning though since i shd got my butt going a month ago. Haha. I also finally managed to buy a decent pair of shoes. Finally i paid  in full the Batam trip that my mum has been so keen of (i miss the kueh lapis there!!).

Most importantly, however, i finally ate at my favourite Mee Goreng of all times from the Seah Im Hawker Centre. For those who do not know, go find out where the shit it is. I knew this stall since 1997, and have loved it for its moist mee, together with minute bits of mutton that i have not seen in any Mee Goreng in Singapore. Though the uncle is a bit grouchy (i can count the number of smiles for these 9 years patronage) and the standard of the Mee Goreng varies like recent weather, i will still trek to the centre for a bite of the marvellous mee.

The Stall Signage Selling the Mee Goreng

The Real Stuff!
Uncomparable! By My Standard. And i heard im not a very Particular Eater. Lol

Another worth noting event was tat i performed another literacy accomplishment! No, I din write a book, i just completed reading one in one day!! Call me speed writer, call me details blotter, anything u wana. But i did enjoy the book, though i will forget the details tomorrow. Haha.

The book name is Ellie by Lesley Pearse. The name of the book took after the main character in the novel and i read a few others by the same author, Charity, Camellia, Charlie, Rosie etc.

The Book That I Devoured In One Mere Day!
Two more, Tara and Georgia to go!!

One thing for guys and lesbians, the girls featured on the cover pages of Lesley Pearse novels are really hot!! The story line was always around the second world war period till the 60s, with the setting in United Kingdom.

Pearse's novels alway kept me awake, notwithstanding the sexual content (sometimes), but also the strong willed characters carved out in times of extreme conditions that was potrayed so realistically that you wish you evolved into one of the characters! I obviously will recommend this author because i fell in love with the character every time i start on a new Lesley Pearse novel.

Mahjong Mahjong!

Today is the scheduled mahjong session with the starhubbers.

For those who dunno mahjong or just dunno how to play it, please try!! Its amazing!! I think its the greatest game in the world that requires not only wit, brains but also on luck! And apparently it helps to deter Alzheimer's Disease. Tats why i keep persuading my mum to join my kaki sessions. Lol.

Up till now, i have lost 9 bucks! And im still jobless! Sighz..

Look at Lock's Tiles (the one facing us), nice nice.
He Won for this Particular Round

I woke up early in the morning to prepare breakfast for the mahjong kakis!! My so called first attempt!! Had eggs, toast, sausages, luncheon meat, cucumber salad etc etc! I tasted it, i liked it!!

But apparently, the eventual reviews were not so good!! So sad... Next time, forget bout me cooking! I should save my time and go downstairs buy the fabulously, delicious nasi lemak or roti prata. Hehe.

The American Breakfast That i PAINSTAKINGLY prepared.

A Close Up.
I love it though

Jurong Bird Park

A name that brought back many young memories; when we were still in primary or secondary school.. But seriously, most of you should go back and revisit those memories.

It changed a bit (same bird shows) but at least its an educational and fulfiling trip! Provided u are not extremely terrified of birds and your main purpose is to "know" those featheries, not just "see" them.

Five of us (Weeyuan, Vanessa, Lock, Alex and I of course) woke up early in the morning and we enjoyed ourselves immersely, despite the stormy, thundery weather!

Snow Owl..
Its really cute. Its not Only Majestic, but Dignified and Most of all, Cuddly! lol

God Knows What These Two Were Doing...

Our Favourite Attraction in the Park, The Lory Loft. Strongly Recommended! But please bring an umbrella!

Made a Very OBVIOUS statementStaged by Weeyuan

Its been a trip well spent. And my knowledge on nature had deepened (on birds obviously)!! Biggest, Fastest, Heaviest bird is Ostrich! Puffin Classis Emblem is a real bird!! Etc Etc.

Next trip will be the zoo i guess. Lol.
Lets hope i can get the free entry pass again!!

Handle Bar

Not sure if any of you has heard of this bar that's situated near  the former Saint Andrews Junior College? I always passed by that area but had never ventured into it. So imagine my enthusiam when my friend suggested that area when we were scouting our way around Singapore for a place to chill out! Haha.

The Dark, Errie, Steep Staircase Leading to Handle Bar

Handle Bar is a meeting place for Harley Davidsons fans and riders alike! We reached ard 12 midnight (i think) and even though the bar was reserved for a private function, we were welcome to enter.

Once inside u can see that the ambience, decor were very unique. It was not so "showy showy" and was quite run down. However, any grouches were gone when u saw the deep, inset culture of the Harley spirt. Dunno how to describe it wif u people but u can see for urself at the photos below! Or please visit it at your earliest convenience!

The Sink Area. Note all the Side Mirrors!

A bit Dark. We Found This Dinosaur somewhere around Handle Bar and our Dear Weeyuan was Fighting Bravely!!

Xin Wang HongKong Cafe

There is another new kid on the "HongKong Cafes Craze" block in Singapore and its called New Prosperity @ Marina Square! And this time, i was not disappointed either with the level of service and most importantly, with its food!! Alex and I savoured a few dishes and here's e freaking reviews!!

1) Ice Milk Tea @ $2.90

The milk tea was really sedap! Its not too milky, not too thin and best of all, quenching to the thirst that resulted from the bloody hot weather that Singapore was facing recently! Of coz, i know i can get it at $1.50 from my favourite Prata shop. Hahaha

2) French Toast @$3.90

This was really amazing, great, fabulous!! The sweet taste of honey coupled with the hot crispy toast and the smooth butter put it on the top of my list! Only the one in Kim Gary can fight with it!! Dun be deceived by the picture; it was abused by us even before i can get a shot. lol. But, the size was quite minute.

3) Pork Chop with French Fries @$7.90

Before i can even try this course, Alex gulped down the eggs, chomped down the fries, leaving only the two pieces of pork there! I will say the pork was grilled to perfection though i admitted the gravy on the pork was really taseless, to e extent of non existent.

4) Cheese Baked Pork Chop Spaghetti @ $8.90

Yes, the spaghetti was there!! But it had been covered by a thick layer of cheese that was lip smacking good! Thats wat cheese baked products should be like! (hint: the hk cafe in IMM sucked in this aspect) The pork chop grilled to a crisp at e side and notwithstanding the bones, it was mouth watering.... *slurps* Surprisingly, the spaghetti dun really taste that 'out of ordinary' and the sauce was quite little, though it brought out the redness in the dish. lol

Overall, i liked this place. The service staff attending to us never hesitate to give us a smile. And the food was one of the better ones in Singapore, better than e one in Upper East Coast and of course IMM. The ambience was comparatively better than e others with red leather seats and even the menu looks great!

What If?

I was just lying on my bed this morning@ 2 am when i started to imagine....

What if i am involved in an accident today and will be in a coma for ten years before i finally wake up?

And i realised that my dad had passed away, my dog had died, my girlfriend had left me, my mum had a head full of silvery hair. And my memory still remained as what has happened before e accident?

My heart felt so pained, so sore, so uncomfortable when i thought of that.... and in the silence of the night, i dragged rubee closer to me...

Hainanese Curry Rice

Situated @Maxwell Hawker Centre!!

This was the second time i tried this stall.

The very first impression, I though it was just a normal chap chai ben (mixed vegetables rice) and im not wrong (u still have to choose the combination)!! But of coz, the taste differed from the norm that we were damn familiar with.

One key difference was that the varieties never seem to change, another was that the pork chop with the curry gravy that go with the rice really make it very palatable!

No wonder there are forever a queue for it!! I reached at around 11am, well before the lunch break and oredi, there were 6 people queuing! But have to admit its quite ex. Alex and I spent $6.70 for two portions and i still had to stuff myself with fried banana and ondeh ondeh to be moderately full. Haha

Pork Chop with Sunny Side Up and Cabbage!
One word, delicious. I dunno wat went into making the pork chop but it tasted..... Hm... Traditional! It had a milky taste to it! Not human milk k! Lol. U can see the amount of curry gravy that went with it~! Rest assured, its not even "warm" to the taste buds!

Deep Fried SMALL Prawns with Steam Egg and Bean Sprouts
Alex tried this one which i though was grossly normal with patrhetic tiny prawns. But i admitted the the prawns did taste not bad and the steamed egg was like some big chunk! As usual, our Alex cannot finish it.

Changes!

I seldom drive at daytime since im using an OPC (Off-Peak Car). But today, i bought the temporary license and passed by Yishun Avenue 5, near Chong Pang.

I was shocked to see all the trees being given a crew cut!!! Gone were the lush greenery surrouding the slim branches. But of coz, all the bird residing at the trees can be quite a menance, with all the potential shit that dropped! Lol.

If you were around there @night, you will note quite a few people using umbrellas even though its not raining! Try it after the "hair" has grown back.

Optical Illusions

Its been like, i think, 10 years since i last went to the Singapore Science Centre. In lieu with my deteoriating memory, i cannot remember much of the last trip! However, i still managed to have an enjoyable time!

Might as well put all of you to the test! Look at the few pictures below and see if u can see what i thought i saw!

Is this a happy sailor? or a sad man?

Sad Policeman? Or happy sailor?

A few stalks of violet? Or napolean and his lover/wife?

Interesting right?? Guess my eyes are still ok! Lol

Pariss International

The first time i heard this name, i tot it was just a MLM company or some high class thingy but like most of u heard, its a buffet restaurant that is supposedly on the same league like Vienna, another restaurant that caters to the buffet hungry Singaporeans like me!! Lol.

Anyway, i tried it just a few hours ago but i only have one word for it.
BAD

The food was not fabulous, their shark fins sucked (sorrie, animal activists), the desserts were not commendable, the spanner crabs tasted ironically fishy, the range was not wide(the normal sushi, dim sum, chinese food, teppanyaki etc). In all, its just not innovative enuff.

From my distant memory of Vienna, it served innovative and well designed food! At least they attempted to put normal fruit juice into a test tube, clams that were baked with cheese, mini pot of herbal chicken soup etc etc!

Sighz... Im reli disappointed by it and even though service was ok but i wished that the person (Peach i think) at the reception can greet with a smile.. Sometimes, i wonder if i knew em and perhaps owed them something (like money).

The other thing worth mentioning was that the person answering our phone queries was not well versed in English and you may have difficulty and frustration in booking a reservation.

However, some of the items like the teppanyaki lamb chop, the lobster salad etc were quite good. And currently, they have student and senior citizens promo, which made it cheaper than sakura!

The promotion ends tomorrow, by the way.

Jack Russells Hate Rubee

I dunno why but i realises that jack russels hate my dear old rubee!! And its limited to the males and only to this particular breed!! I can only think of a few reasons as to why;
  1. Rubee is too friendly!
  2. Rubee is gay!! Apparently the other males are straight
  3. Rubee has a genetically repelling scent that only triggers the males JRT (Jack Russell Terrors, opps terriers)
  4. Rubee obviously has too much charm and the Jack Russells genetically, just cannot tahan him!
  5. Rubee looks like a female and the male Jack Russells are obviously pissed when they realise that!
I cannot pinpoint the "TRUE" reason becoz my rubee has always been friendly, non agressive and particularly patient dog.

Malaysia Boleh!

I am finally back in Singapore and am now facing some kinda lethargy.. I guess i din play enuff in KL. Furthermore, i am going to start on my job searching soon. Very sianz ah!! Anyway, a quick update on how Kuala Lumpur has changed all this while~~

Food
My favourite topic and the utmost reason why i always go KL; the food there are cheap and good. My favourite place is as usual, the famous Kim-Gary restaurant!! I have to admit that the price has gone up somewhat and if you people ever go there, please go during lunch as there are more varieties and go for the set meal, its more worth it. Two of the dishes i have tried are discussed as follow:

HK Style Baked Rice with Cheese and Beef
I tried baked rice before and i felt that its unpalatable but this one stop me right at that outrageous statement! Not only was it cheessy , but the red sauce that goes with it and the tender beef that lined the baked rice made it looked too appealing. It tasted heavenly! The cheese striped off the beef like those adverts that we fondly remember of Pizza Hut's pizzas. It only cos me RM15.50 as a set and I give it 9/10.

Beef with Spaghetti in Red Sauce
One look at the amazing dish above and u will know how tentalising it is! I tasted it and almost flied out of the building. The sweet tangy red sauce, coupled with the piece of soft beef and the ever healthy tomatoes deter me from giving anything less than a rating of 10/10! It costs only RM12.50 as a set.

Weird Sight

One very weird way of selling is shown by the picture above. From one glance, we thought someone was selling tigers!! But the "tigers" turned out to be soft toys! Nonetheless, it attracted a lot of viewers like me, who din hesitate to take a pic or too. Lol.

Tats all folks~ Hopefully i will be going there again! I managed to purchase alot of car accessories!! Will post it in the next column!!

Singapore GE 2006

I have placed a lot of importance to this general election because
  1. Its my FIRST time voting
  2. I have been reading newspapers since 1993 and have felt strongly for the politics.
  3. Im finally completing my studies and am FINALLY going into a permanent workforce and am very interested to see what my MP can do for me and my country.
Im part of e biggest GRConstituency in Singapore, the Sembawang GRC that has over 170,000 eligible voters! I have no qualms about declaring that i voted for the PAP. The reason was not tat im an avid PAP supporter, no doubt that PAP has ruled the country well for over 40 years.

I vote for the one who can speak up for the citizens and can do well for the future of not just the GRC im in but also for the whole country. Below are some reasons why i din vote for the opposition.

  1. My MP, Mr K Shanmugam, has done fairly well for my constituency at Chong Pang. Even though i am really curious what the results are for the individual constituencies in a GRC. for example, if the Election department actually showed individually (instead of just the whole of Sembawang GRC) in terms of Chong Pang, Canberra, Marsiling, Admiralty, Woodlands and Sembawang.
  2. The party SDP is synomous with its bankrupt party leader, Dr Chee Soon Juan, whom i din have a very good impression of. I think he is basically destroying Singapore's reputation with his no hold speech all around the world. And i think the SDP strategy in being "loud" really dun work well for me.
  3. The SDP seems disunited and wat's the pointed of voting for a disunited team that dun seem to be even able to settle their "home" problems. There was one rally where they only have 2 canditates out of the 6 attending, with the other 4 "missing" from action
I expected the result of Sembawang GRC (with over 75% voting for the team led by Dr Khaw) but im amazed by the big majority swing!! It has been an exciting election year though i felt that there are more "mud slinging" this time around and i dun wish to see politicking turning into the one like Taiwan!

Hereby, i congrat PM Lee Hsien Loong (i have always believe in him) and the PAP for the strong mandate that they had gotten from the voters. Congrats too to Mr Low Thia Kiang and Mr Chiam See Tong (both of which have offered important, alternate viewpoints in parliament of which others may have missed out) in retaining their seats in Hougang and Potong Pasir respectively.

Lastly, all the above are my personal views and i apologise if i have offended anyone. Of course, i welcome any comments, positive or negative.

Finally, A Haircut

My Rubee finally succumbed to a haircut by Wenjun, a groomer from Alphapets at Upper Thomson road, near Nee Soon Camp! Lol. He had groomed Rubee's 3 times and is getting better and better! See the before and after look! Looked better, dun he? Yes, a he.. not a charbo k?

Haji Maksah Barkat Chahya Food Stall

Dun be misled by the long name of this stall. The Nasi Lemak is recommended by Makansutra with 5 chop sticks rating!~! I saw e short queue so i just tried it! Despite having a cough (tat seemed to be getting more and more worse) and sore throat, i really cannot resist Nasi Lemak!! Anyway, i will decipher its ingredients!

  • Chilli - A great load was heaped onto my plate though i will prefer more rice. It tasted great to me since i prefer sweeter chilli!
  • Rice - Soft to my palate and smelt heavenly!!
  • Chicken Wing - I always prefer muslim chicken wings since they have a special tange to its taste but this was the best so far! The meat was fried to a crisp without the usual oiliness attached to it and its still hot to the mouth!! Yummy!! My favourite of all!
  • Omelette - Unlike those flat, dry almost skin thin omelette sold by most, this one looked more homely! Thicker with a more "meaty" feel to it!
Out of my 26 years savouring Nasi Lemak, i will say this is e best so far and its only @$2!!!! Go get it!! Its at Boon Lay Shopping Centre Hawker Centre!! Just go look for the one wif Makansutra logo!! Go Go Go!

I Feel So Guilty

I just got a new car recently but tat has sadly culminated into a rather unwilling mentality to bring my dog out for "jalan jalan". Beside the fact that my new car has aircon (finally) with new seats etc, the very notion of my fairly haired Rubee dripping his saliva (i understand its a physiological necessity) made me think twice to bring him out!!

Sighz.... I feel so bad sometimes. Not tat im incessantly anthromorphic, but i still feel that its bad to just leave him alone. Two things may happen (high percentage),
  1. He will pee. If lucky (high % too), he will pee on the newspaper provided. A thing to note hor, he pees downstairs. And further info will tell you i live in a HDB flat. And for those who may not know wats that, its a high rise public housing!
  2. He will look at his pee and sniff it!! Its not so bad when he has short hair, with short beard, short whiskers. But if its bloody long, he will stain itl; not just one strand, one portion but all around!!! The hair will not only smell bad but it will be stained yellow, like what some men's white underwear will look like!!

When He Sees You Wearing Shoes at the Balcony

The Last Look before You Close the Main Door

But who can ignore the above two faces that he potrays whenever i go out?!?!!? So i guess my mind is made up! I will shave him again!! It will make him comfortable and he dun reli need the look since he is 9 human years plus liao! Ok, my mind is made up!! After i earn more money first. Lol

Youtube

Have anyone of you surf through youtube yet??? I love this website!! It enables me to search for additional info and clips of those korean tv serials that im so obsessed with recently!! Full House (tat stars rain and song huiqiao!) news, those NGs and the best is the Dae Jang Geum (da chang jin aka Jewel in/of the Palace).

They have the reunion show where the actors (obviously our Min Jio Ho, but also have the King, the Uncle Dejiu and the Doctor who likes Changjin) and actresses (obviously Changjin, but also have GunYing, Cui Shangu, Han Shangu, Jung Shangu, Min Shangu, and the young Changjin!). Im so hooked on it!!

For those searching for pornographic, fisting, heading even, forget bout it, they normally screen thru the videos beforehand. Lol.

Waraku Restaurant

Got a treat from my brother-in-law for the above mentioned restaurant situated at Marina Square. It's sort of a birthday celebration but i wondered why they chose this restaurant as compared to most of the others. A few comments here and there.

  1. Service was great and the personnel were very attentive and concerned about your needs.
  2. Food was so-so. Not so special with THAT KINDA price charged. Though the displays looked exquisite enuff.
  3. Price was considered mid range but for a poor guy like me, i dun think it's worth for the price though. We spent $102 for 5 people and im not exactly full. It could be more worth it if you ordered the set meals that include rice and udon/soba etc.
Would like to show more pictures but my cell phone reli screww up!! Except for the main picture, all e others looked screw up on computer!! So maybe next time! Anyway, i wun go back there again. I will prefer PS sixth level japanese food stall! Cheaper and much more tastier!!

Time for a change from the slow, unreliable, crappy friendster blog and see if i can create a better one here. Hopefully it wun be just food, food and more food. I shd make it more like food, drinks, desserts, supper etc. Hahaha. Of coz, there will be the normal grouches and naggings about drivers, movies, people etc etc. Bear wif me and stay tuned to ever sensitive food entries. Pray for me because im having a diet .. as usual.
