Sichuan Chef (四川厨子) @ Northpoint City [Yishun, Singapore] #sichuanchef #northpointcity

I don't particularly enjoy spiciness but i have an even lower tolerance for sourish stuff; hence, it came as a surprise personally when i decided to join my family for a spicy grilled fish meal at Sichuan Chef (Northpoint City)!

There were only four of us, since the pig couldn't join us, and i think we didn't over-order with just a fish, a chicken, a pork and a vegetable dish.

Seabass Special Toast - the translation is so, so wrong as the correct English term would have been grilled. Nonetheless, it's supposed to be the star for the day and i must say the portion was rather large. Good for my mom though as she's renowned to be a fish-meat lover.

For her son, however, the cooking style isn't my cup of tea. We opted for less spiciness as my mom couldn't eat as spicy as she used to, yet it was still a bit too spicy and sour for me and needless to say; sweat started oozing out from the pores of my head!

This serving of black fungus was complimentary if you order the grilled fish. Well, doesn't matter to me since i don't take black fungus. Quite a surprise since i am a big lover of mushrooms, in general!

Sweet Sour Pork Ribs - equipped with bones, these weren't the kind Singaporeans are accustomed to. Obviously, i prefer our local version (which is less saucy) and nothing beats the ones from Por Kee Eating House.

Stir Fried Garden Fresh - this is a safe dish to order if you ever see it on the menu of a Chinese restaurant. Comprising of just three simple main ingredients, green pepper, potatoes and brinjals, it's a delicious companion with a bowl of plain, white rice!

Spicy Fragrant Diced Chicken - frankly, the one Sichuan dish i couldn't resist ordering is 辣子鸡. Plain, deep fried diced chicken wouldn't generate much of an interest but as a combination with the dried chilli and peppercorns; it become something real addictive despite the fact that i am perspiring like hell with a numbed tongue!

=====

Frankly, my overall verdict on what we had wasn't really positive. Food was alright with the Stir Fried Garden Fresh being average whereas the Spicy Fragrant Diced Chicken performed better with above-average review. The other two didn't appeal to me at all. Maybe it's just me?

    It was worse dine in experience recently. Ordered one soup, two dishes, one fired rice. Soup and dishes all came slowly, but never seen the fried rice even finished 3/4 dishes. Called the staff passing by more than three times, however, we had been ignored all the times without anyone came to us. In the end, we stopped one staff who was cleaning the table. She agreed to help to check with kitchen where was our order. After a while, she informed me that the order was missed out, my fired rice haven’t stared cooked yet. Informed her that no need to cook, we would like to cancel the order for fired rice since haven’t prepared and our dishes almost finished already. She noted and agreed. Upon making payment, there was no staff at the reception counter. The staff who was occupied at kitchen came out and informed us that their staff not around, need to wait. Finally, the reception staff came and we made the payment. I left the counter without checking the bill. Informed by my friend to look through the bill to see if the fired rice had been charged. Surprisingly, it was charged in my bill even there was no one served rice to us. We finished the dish without any rice.
    Appreciated the owner agreed to refund for the fired rice. But it was really a frustrating experience.
