Chong Pang Huat Pork Satay @ Yishun Park Hawker Centre [Singapore]

Yishun Park hawker centre has opened for operations for quite a while but maybe because i stay in Yishun; i always think that i could wait a while for the crowd to die down before paying it a visit.

Almost a year had passed and i thought it's about time! Truth is, the place was still relatively crowded when i dropped by at 8pm yesterday; way after the peak dinner time. Not one for high-carbo meal at night, my indulgence rest on the pork satays from Chong Pang Huat.

It took about 15 minutes before i got my plate of satays! So much for wanting to come later so that i didn't have to endure the wait. The saving grace was that a pager was given and i can sit comfortably at my table while waiting for my food.

Coming to the pork satays, their appearance elicited a comment from me that's heavy with disappointment; the meat looked too lean and instead of the usual two layers of pork fat, there was only one. :(

With lowered expectations, i honestly felt that i wouldn't get much satisfaction from this meal. I tore off the meat from the stick and was shocked to find it utterly flavourful, surrounded by a nice, smoky aroma! And for lean meat which i would associate with a dry, tough texture, it was in fact pretty tender.

I usually wouldn't say too much about the satay gravy as it's quite consistent across satay stalls with nuanced differences. There were terrible ones of course but this took the cake for being thick and chunky; providing a nice bite to the satay meat!

This reminded me of my meal in Melaka's Capitol Satay Celup; could the operator of Chong Pang Huat do something similar but use the same satay gravy as above? I bet it would be better than what i had in Melaka.
