One of the things I crave the most from Taiwan would be their unmatched deep-fried stinky tofu! So, how could I miss out out on this delicacy when I returned to Taiwan earlier this year?!
I couldn't resist the aroma and decided to order a serving from the above makeshift takeaway stall that was along Wenhua Rd, before the start of the night market and near the Fountain Circle (中央噴水池) that had a statue of a baseball player.
The sizzling of deep fried food was enticing enough. But wait you catch and whiffs of pungency that reminded you of the nuggets of goodies that would eventually go into the mouth!
Waiting for the oil to drip off.
And for the temperature to cool and crisp the skin.
NT$50 for a small serving consisting of five pretty large pieces; first step to do would be to pop a few pieces of the pickled cabbages. crunchy with the sweet vinegarish flavor that I personally like. Next up would be the fried tofu!
Crispiness gave way to a soft juiciness that was unforgettably good, and comparatively much better than the last stinky tofu I had at a night market in Singapore, more than a year ago! Maybe the long time away since then had made the heart grow fonder!
