Two nights in Sapa are simply too short and I only managed to visit Sapa Lake in the day time on my very last day! I did chance upon the lake in my first night but visibility was so low; I couldn't even figure out how big the lake was!
Spanning about 400 meters in length with a width of about 150 meters, the shape of this man-made lake was quite similar to the legendary Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi, just missing turtle tower.
Even though it was daytime and it felt like we were surrounded with clouds, it was said that on a great, cloudless days, the sight was a lot more spectacular with rolling hills and mountains surrounding the lake!
Despite the clean, crisp air, it was appalling to see the conditions of the lake water; green, with like algae and a oily sheen on the surface! Didn't see any fish though which could be because of the cold.
Panorama!
As we didn't have much time, I am unable to circle the entire lake. From afar, it was kind of magical to see that layer of mist slightly above the lake surface. Daytime still okay; will be much more eerie at night.
Aside from a path surrounding the lake, there were also outdoor exercise machines for residents. Unlike places like Da Nang and Hanoi, the lake was quiet and we didn't see any locals working out, line-dancing or even enjoying the peacefulness of the lake.
It's such a pity as there was even a manicured garden right beside the lake, flushed with blooming flowers that would always draw the attention of my flower-crazy dad.
Selfie time!
