The efficiency of immigration clearance in Singapore was said to be one of the best in the world and being Singaporeans, we are always on the lookout for automated, electronic gates (e-gates) whenever we travel, and wondering if we could use them for faster clearance instead of facing the immigration officers, many of whom were unsmiling and stern-looking.
Hence, when we saw e-gates being offered for immigration clearance in January 2025, we asked if we could use them and turned out, Singaporeans are allowed so long they have a "passport validity over 6 months, age over 12 years old and body height over 120 cm"! Aside from Singapore, this reciprocal move also included citizens from the United States, South Korea, Australia, Italy, Germany and Malaysia.
You are still required to complete a one-time registration via the immigration office near the e-gates. Present your passport, take a photo, register your fingerprints and you are done!
As there wasn't anyone anyone in front of us, the one-time registration was completed in mere minutes! The envious eyes from the rest of the travellers as we breezed through the e-gates! p.s. as I just changed my passport this April, I guess I would have to register again?
