Fei Po Char Siew (肥婆叉烧) from The Legend Roasted Meat Rice & Noodle @ Hong Lim Food Centre [Singapore] #honglimhawkercentre

There's actually a secret at Hong Lim Food Centre known only to regulars and I wasn't aware about it until my elder sister, who worked next to the hawker centre, divulged to me after hiding it for so long! 

The secret is at The Legend Roasted Meat Rice & Noodle stall; at first look, it's the Chinese name that caught my attention as it was an unabashed adoration towards the Chinese film legend, Bruce Lee.

Nothing on the signboard mentioned the secret although a closer look at the stall, likely only when you are queuing, would reveal the information. Three photos of char siew with four Chinese characters that appeared on all of them; 肥婆叉烧.

That's the star for today's post and compared to our normal char siew; the thickness of 肥婆叉烧 was eye popping! If you intend to check out this interesting food item ( with a somewhat derogatory name, do note that it's available only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from noon.

Ordered a plate for this official review; minimally, it would cost S$5.00 and should you prefer to just have Fei Po Char Siew without rice / noodle, it shall be at least S$15.00 worth. 

Don't you just hate it when stall owners chopped / sliced the meat too finely?! It just didn't feel shiok and rest assured, you wouldn't get that problem here at  The Legend Roasted Meat Rice & Noodle; each piece of fei po char siew was about 1.5-centimeter thick! 

Was it sinfully fatty? Interestingly, it wasn't fatty as the layer of fat was sandwiched between meat that was so amazingly tender; hence, it was a good balance and would appeal to those who couldn't stand overly fatty char siew.

Aside from the chunkiness of each piece, the roasting had resulted in a texture which was a bit charred (not too excessive although I can bear with more) yet locking in all the juiciness within! Taste wise, the fei po char siew didn't disappoint; I was slowly savouring each piece as it was just so delicious and satisfying!

Reasons for not finishing the rice - within the last 30 minutes, I had already had toast and coffee from Zheng Ming Drink stall, and a bowl of Dong Fang Hong Sotong Ball Seafood Soup! Would have opted for ala-carte char siew but I wouldn't be able to finish S$15.00 worth of char siew, no matter how tasty it is, after having so much food!
